snipped-for-privacy@sbcglobal.net/albumsis a lover of quilts, quilting and this quilter.I quilt in the front room and he's right there, checkingout the windows to make sure we're not under attackand to be ready to be First Greeter at the front door.He lies on the floor beside me, hops up every time I shiftor rattle paper (chocolates, chewing gum, quilt shop receipts)to make sure everything's still under control.Springer spaniels are adorable. And this big lug is anespecially delightful quilt investigator/appreciator.He won't go to sleep in the house until his quilt is ondraped over his kennel. ;-) Cheers!

Ragmop/Sandy-- "but he's not MY dog!" I repeat...

p.s. Stanley is a "registered" dog, w/ papers citing his long lineage of Fancy Name ancestors; he, tho', is Stanley Steamer because of the big, wet sighs he gives when he's happy or excited or tired or .. he sounds like a Stanley Steamer engine ;-) Altho' when groomed he looks like a dog version of (noble) Sir Laurence Olivier, he acts like Jerry Lewis!

Well, I was wondering if you spent hours every day 'doing' Stanley's coat and was relieved to see that he has an easier cut. Grooming our Yorkie would be a full-time job (not to say impossible) if he wore a show coat. The show coats are handsome and magnificient but a bit of a bother to a busy QI. Thank you for sharing, Sandy. I enjoyed seeing the winners, especially your Stanley who certainly is one with your heart. Polly

Sandy, I grew up with a series of English Springers and they are truly wonderful family dogs. As an adult I have had a couple of Airedales and that has been fun also. There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. Most dogs that I have come across, their only reason for being seems to be to please their owners. I am sure the same is true of cats, but I have never been able to (connect) with cats. It is dogs for me.

Yeah, I spend so much time on Stan's coat-- hah! Nah, this is what he looks like in the winter:

Not my idea; I'd trim him to keep him from shedding so much, not shaved but trimmed. But "he's not my dog!" and I don't push the issue w/ the dog owner. But the dog's owner does push the sweeper to clean up some of that hair! (I think there's a small dog inside the vacuum cleaner right now.)

He's a sweet dog, that Stanley. You're right, Polly, the right dog will steal hearts.

John, the Springers are wonderful family dogs. Stan loves everybody, and he thinks he's a lap dog, all 80 lbs. of 'im. (Much bigger than the standard Springer, he comes from a LARGE line...large family. )

Thanks, y'all, for letting me talk about Gene's dog. ;-D

I enjoy hearing about Gene's dog ; ) I can't believe he is 80 lbs. He is big! Yep, Polly is right, the right dog will steal hearts.

I have been on a hunt for a pal for Georgia. Can't find the right dog that needs re-homed at this point (part of 'right' means you have to blend in with the carpet color because Gene doesn't live here and I am not big on vacuuming)

Sorry to hear about the vote at the council meet> Howdy!

James is just like the Prison Service Drugs Dog who came to speak our WI meeting yesterday, 'cept he was called Blue. His handler had hidden some drugs behind a notice board and it was fascinating to see how quickly he found them. Then after he had had his reward from the handler (a tennis ball) he shot to the back of the hall and sat patiently waiting under the table set out with cups for the tea, and biscuits!

Needless to say he was paid for his performance with a biscuit!

They are trained to find tennis balls before they get to finding drugs, and when they can smell out a 1/4 ball hidden in a shirt they progress to 'the hard stuff'. All the rewards they receive are a play with the ball, and lots of cuddles! He should have been good, though - he is the National Champion.
