what next OT

We've been resident managers of this hotel for a year. Today we got our 30 days notice because it sold. I don't know where we'll go or what we'll do.

Well, we've been down this road with you before, Mary, so now here we go again. Together! You are not alone. Keep us posted.

yes you have. Guess I start packing evenings instead of sewing. There is a possible job with the current owner but it's in Texas and not sure I want to go there.

Mary, you haven't seemed to be very happy with this current owner, so maybe the Texas job wouldn't work out any better and you'd be further from your mom. I pray something wonderful will come along for you and that your mother will make great progress in her recovery. It's about time your 'luck' changes for the better! Best wishes,

You're right. We haven't been happy with him. And I don't want to be that far from family. I have one lead to check on while with my parents.

Well said Karen. Remember that, Mary. For now, go and see your Mom, and concentrate on her for a few days. You were afraid this would happen; so now the only way is onwards and upwards (as they say - not quite sure what it means). Do you have Employment offices? If you had an open mind about what you wanted to do - together or separately, they might be able to steer you in a different direction altogether - the hotel business hasn't been the greatest for you after all. Our employment offices have all sorts of devices for helping people re-train or change track. Or perhaps you could find some temporary jobs until you decide where you want to be and exactly what you would like to do. Maybe this is the crossroads where your decisions could be of the 'making dreams come true' variety? . In message , "Karen, Queen of Squishies" writes

Wow - what an opportunity for you to find a more suitable employment. I know I sound less than sympathetic - but I'm not - the stress of not knowing what's next must be keeping you up at night! I'll be keeping you in my prayers.

Thanks, Pat. Yes, we have employment offices. We have used it to apply for one job recently. I will do web searches more seriously than I have in the past. Don't know how, but we will land on our feet and continue down life's road.

But Texas is so far from our children and grandchildren!

The big problem is a place to live. this position came with housing. Thank you for the prayers.

Well, dang it. Go see your Mom, hug her, try to focus on her for a while, when you come back you will have the strength to think about this development. Heck, maybe the new owners will want you to stay? Afterall, who better to transition with than the employees who are already there?

I empathize with you...but it could be much worse: You got 30 DAYS notice???????? Do you know how LUCKY you are? It may not seem that way but.....I've had DH come home on a Mon night after 10 PM to say the movers would be there in the morning for an estimate.....and we were GONE by that Friday. This meant *I* had to contact all the utilities, school, Dr offices, etc. that was one time that we knew where we would be going. NO place to hang our hats...but we were outta there and on the road that Friday. Another time, DH was working 6 days a week LONG hours, went to work on Mon to find the job totally LOCKED UP and the cops were all over the place not letting anyone in. NOONE had any notice. Corporate headquarters decided the job wasn't making enuf money and pulled the plug on EVERYONE (DH was working for a sub-contractor) including the ppl in the main office. Cops were there to bodily escort them in to get their personal belongings only. IT became locally known as Black Monday.... a lot of ppl lost their homes over it.

Just know that I'm sending STRONG vibes your way that you'll find something that you want to do where you are.

DH is still job hunting and so far nothing is panning out.

Butterfly (getting more gray hair over this than when we were rearing kids!)

Mary: While I do commiserate with you, I would like to point out that since you we 'released' you are probably eligible for unemployment compensation of some sort. That would not be the case had you simply resigned. Also, since the reason was a change of ownership, most potential employers would be understanding. So, there may be a little bit of silver in the cloud. Good luck in your next Endeavour. Pat in Virginia
