When It Rains, It Pours!

Hi Guys, Well, I didn't have anything quilty lined up for this spring and it was nice not to have to worry about getting something put together and ready for a specific occasion, etc. That all ended today -- BIG time -- LOL. I found out last week that DH of one of the ladies in my needlework group had developed a very invasive form of skin cancer. I talked with a few other ladies from the group and decided that I would organize a group "sew-in" to make this couple a {{{HUG QUILT}}}. They are *big time* Christmas people and the DH (Dan is his name) has worked as Santa for years and years. He's such a wonderful Santa that he is often hired to participate in the big Christmas Parade here in Hotlanta. I planned on cutting out the fabric (all Christmas themed, of course) this week and having the ladies come next week to sew. I could then get the quilt assembled and finished to give to this woman at the next needlework group meeting on 23 April. That might not happen now!! My DSis called this morning and asked if I could make a purple & green (MY fav. colors) lap quilt for her best friend's DD who is graduating from University in mid-May. No sooner did I hang up the phone but DH calls to tell me that friends who belong to the Krewe of Bacchus (and have shepherded us through New Orleans during Mardi Gras) had lost EVERYTHING in a house fire early Saturday morning! My first thought is that I NEED to make them a quilt, especially because the woman lost the 3 or 4 antique family heirloom quilts that she had on display in her home :-(. We leave for Lizard Land on 09 May which means I have about four weeks in which to get three quilts made! Fortunately, I have plenty of stash from which to make these quilts. I'll make the Christmas fabric quilt for the friend whose DH has skin cancer. Then a purple and green quilt for DSis' friend. I'll make a scrappy, scrappy quilt for the friends who had the house fire. Aside from not doing anything but quilt for the next month, the only problem is that I doubt if there will be time to let the ladies help sew the Christmas quilt. What I might do is get the quilt assembled, do some SITD quilting to keep everything in place, bind the quilt and then take it to the Needlework Group Meeting, present it to the woman and then have everyone help tie the quilt! That way everyone would have a hand in working on the quilt and I can get it done on time. I think I have my work cut out for me this month :-)! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm exhausted just reading that list! Glory, you are sure going to be one busy lady. Have fun, and you are a dear to do so much community/ family work. The old story, ask a busy person if you want something done LoL.

Take a look at the Hug quilt I coordinated for our pastor's wife: the idea of tying a knot for each person who is praying for her recovery made this extra special. If you adapt that to your group, then "just tying" the quilt gains a whole deeper meaning.

Thanks....I wish I could say it wasn't still getting lots of use, but our friend Carol had a relapse following some progress. Starting a second round of chemo, so the quilt is in use again for lots of recovery time naps: I'm so glad we did this project..it warms the spirit and the body!
