I know that the usable WOF can vary, but I don't know what the range typically is. What number do you use for useable WOF when calculating yds. requirements for a quilt?

I usually use 40" of usable fabric. I can't remember a situation where I didn't have that amount of usable fabric. I have found that the better quality fabrics *usually* have more usable WOF than the less expensive types. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Like Tia Mary, I often figure 40" when buying (and then add 10% for, er, "less than perfect" cutting), but I often find I get 42" and will use that figure if I need to really eek out every inch.

40" for width of fabric. Even when I pre-wash I have always had 40" of usable fabric after removing the selvedges.
