Yippee yoo! My first rctq meet-up!

I got to meet Lori from CO!!! She was here in little tiny West Plains, MO to take a class on servicing the Gammill longarm and I was lucky enough to get to kidnap her for the night.

She phoned me about 3:30 and I drove to town to lead her out to my house since I'm out in the boonies. After a quick "hi" and an obligatory rctq hug in Gammill's parking lot we headed home. As we came thru the door Lori was "attacked" by The Fabulous Furbabies inspite of my best efforts to protect her from their overly eager greetings. I showed her the guest "suite" and then we settled in for a chat.

What a lovely lady! I'm a bit shy, so I resorted to the old trick of asking questions and Lori had the most fascinating tales to tell: of her beautiful children, her travels in Germany and Ireland, of sewing machines and fascinating things they can do with computers and embroidery and all kinds of quilty stuff. Missy took right to her which was nice as she is usually quite shy with new humans. Barney loves the ladies and I had a battle to keep him from attacking her with passionate smoochies! Lori was very gracious with the enthusiastic attention she received from them- I would have been shoving them out of my way. ;-) I showed her some of my humble little quilty projects and was treated to hers.

Oh my! This lady is a top-notch quilter! Her free motion quilting is beyond magnificent--- her stitches are utterly perfect, do not waiver the teensiest fraction and are all exactly the same length. I could

*not* find her stops and starts. It is obvious why she has won so many prizes. She is truly gifted with her sense of color- her quilts took my breath away. I was just mesmerized by the color, the rhythm, the design, the movement. Lovely! And she is generous..... she shared some tips on matching points when I expressed my dislike of triangles and gave me some advice I shall put into practise on my next attempt at free motion work.

We had a lovely prime rib dinner at the little mom & pop restaurant just down the road and then back home to visit some more. She was tired from the drive and I was worn out from my nervous cleaning frenzy- that's how I cope!- so we called it a night rather early. LOL This morning she was off to her class..... I gathered up my quilts and started burning them. LOL Not really, just kidding!, but if you ever see any of Lori's quilts first, you won't be wanting to bring yours out, I guarantee you!

Next meet-up is with LN later this month- I just *can't* wait!!!!! Like everybody always says- if you EVER get the chance for an rctq meet-up...... DO IT!!!

Shy? Well, when I met Lori, I think we got off to a slow start too. Didn't quite know what to talk about. Then we went shopping and the barriers fell! We had the same tastes in fabric and patterns and such and had a great time. Hope she comes back up this way again sometime.

Leslie, we'll just pretend we've met before so we can skip to the good stuff. :D

Lovely LADY? Are you SURE this was the right Lori?

These beautiful children stayed at my house while Lori was running around the great plains. I put them to work preparing the newsletter for mailing (while I quilted!)! It was delightful - all my kids and all her kids kept each other occupied and I didn't get pestered a bit - it was nice.

...I gathered up my quilts and started burning

Yes you will bring your quilts out - all of them - because Lori always makes you feel good about all of your quilts and quilting. She always has time to help you out and give you hints and lead you in the right direction. She makes you feel good.

Leslie, that sounds like so much fun. I'm even jealous of the abundant puppy sugar. Polly

Howdy! When I met Lori (after I had already met her best friend, Teresa, and we talked all day), we clicked instantly. Sat her down in my front room and plied her with Original Recipe Dr.Pepper. We talked. Showed her some of my quilts, and then we talked. Introduced her to my husband, and we talked. I've only seen pics of Lori's quilts so far, and look forward to seeing them up close and in person, one of these days. But I'm not afraid to show her my work; I can quilt. Btw, she also has a PT Cruiser: instant friend! ;-D

Sounds like a good visit, Leslie, enthusiastic furbabies and all.

Well, I did make it back and have finally come up for air -- let me tell you, Leslie is one gracious hostess! Her home is lovely and I had the MIL apartment all to myself. The Furbabies were lots of fun and I'm glad Missy approved of me! It was really fun being able to go to a new place but have a friend to show me around and eat prime rib with!! And Leslie is no slouch when it comes to quilting -- I especially loved her falling leaves wallhanging.

Thanks again, Leslie, for everything! LN, you and Leslie are gonna have fun!!!

We all agreed, Karen fit right in with the rest of us. As for driving around, I hadn't had an excuse to do that all summer so it was lots of fun for me too!
