Yoyoville Finished

I apologize for having been awol, but my attention has been wandering. I've been knitting a lot and I've decided to quit my job at the quilt store. It's been fun, but it's time for a change. I'm looking forward to having more time for my projects (quilted or knitted) and there's a new grandbaby on the way. I'd like the flexibility to be able to easily pick up and go when I want.

However, I have been quilting.

My Mom was the YoYo Queen, and since her passing, that title has fallen on me. When I saw this pattern, I knew it was meant for me to make for my niece Meredith. She's in the fourth grade and lives in Paducah KY. Since Mom isn't here to make quilts for her, I did.

Yoyoville was great fun to make, although afixing those 197 yoyos was more difficult/awkward than I'd guessed. The initial problem was deciding when to put them on. If I appliqued them down on the quilt top, I couldn't have it machine quilted unless it was custom done. So I put them on after the quilting and binding. It was more awkward than anything else. But they are all on and I'm pleased as punch!

I'll catch up on messages and promise to stop by more frequently than I have been. joan

It's adorable! Just the thought of 197 yoyos would have intimidated me, but I'm glad you had the perseverance to see the project through. It was worth it! I'll bet Meredith just loves it.

Congrats on your change of life. I've envied you working at a quilt store, but I can imagine it might get to be a little time intensive and not give you as much freedom as you'd like. And with a new grandbaby soon, you'll want that freedom and flexibility!

Just realized that the info about the quilt wasn't going to show up. It's a pattern from Bunny Hill Designs. Most of the fabric is Simple Abundance by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics. It was machine quilted at Country Sampler in Papillion NE. The yoyos were all made using the Clover YoYo Maker tool, Large size, I believe. joan

Thank you all so much for the kind words.

The border of the quilt was done with fused applique motifs that were zigzagged down with invisible thread. The pattern directions were for hand applique. I just wasn't up to that.

New grandbaby is due on August 22 and we found out today that it's a boy! We are all very excited!!!!!!!!!

Yoyoville is for my 10 year old niece in Paducah KY.

Tomorrow I'm going to be starting a pale blue/pale yellow batik New York Beauty baby quilt for the new little guy. It looks great in my head. We'll see how it looks in the real world. :>

It's really wonderful! And great to carry on your mom's tradition! I bet Meredith will cherish it.

Joan: Delightful quilt ... especially for a girl of that age. I have the yoyo maker too and, much to my surprise, I like it very much. It gives me very even and uniform yo-yos. Lots of quilters have made and still make yo-yos the old fashioned way but this is good for me. It is my travel/meeting project. Pat in VA/USA
