A Few Questions :c)

Hi All, Me Again,

Question 1: First off about the board. I don't know if I'm getting all the messages. I read it through AOL - Community - Newsgroups. I didn't see a lot of the messages to my last post until I went to the home site. Anyone else on AOL and what do you use to read the group? Also, I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome wishes again....I was replying back to some when I got them, but like I said....wasn't receiving them all.

Question 2: for you "enablers" I am really seriously considering the Sizzix SideKick. What is the best price anyone has found on one? How much do the dies approx. cost? (more interested in the little themed sets like dogs, love, Christmas, Fall, ect. than the alphabets at this time). Have been looking them up on Ebay and it seems they go for a range of prices. I haven't gotten out to a craft store yet to look (closest one is an hour away) and we're expecting a snow storm here....so I thought I would ask the experts. :c). Also what do the embossing folders usually run?

Question 3: I finally did my first two layouts (4 pages) this week. Some of you speak of scanning them and "stitching" together. They are 12 x 12. What program do you use for doing this? If I can't scan and stitch them, would pics taken with a digital camera work? Where is the best place to share your work? I would really like to show them and get some constructive criticism on them....being that I am so new at this.

Well thank you in advance for reading my lengthy post. Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You, Jan

Jan asked:

I generally read thru AOL newsgroups, but you're right. It has been missing lots of posts lately. More have been "appearing" (some 2 weeks late) the past few days. And most of them are unthreaded (making over 250 "threads" for me to read) -- annoying! When I'm looking for a specific answer to a post, I've been looking on google groups.

Kate asked:

For those on AOL, go to keyword: newsgroups. Click on "expert add". Enter "rec.crafts.scrapbooks" (without the quotes), then "subscribe". If you're not sure of the name of a newsgroup, you can do a search at keyword newsgroups.

Once you've subscribed, click on "read my newsgroups" & double click on the one you want. Drag the heart into your favorite places & you can get back the easy way after that.

Hi again Jan

I'm also still too new at this to help with the first two q's but as far as no 3 goes - I'm using webshots to share my LO's, and up to now I've had no problems, even though I scan my LO's and they are quite big in bytes.

I'll give answering a try.

Question 1: About missing posts or ones that show up later. I don't have an answer as to why this happens I just know that it does. It seems to go in spirts too. I'll see all my posts and then I'll have a time when several will be missing and the only reason I know they got through to some is someone will reply to is and I'll see it copied in their email. For me it doesn't happen enough for me to look into as to why it happens.

  1. Can't help you with the sidekick question, I don't have Sizzix anything ... yet. There are some knowledge people here on the subject.

  1. To stitch my photos together I use a program called "PhotoStudio". Jean from this group steered me towards it. It works out really well. I take the pictures with my digital camera. Read the directions on the program and it will help with the stitching. It's also a great program for cropping photos too. I share my photos with Webshots and it has worked well for me. It was also easy to install and use.

Jan,

I can't help you with question 1 or 2, since I don't use AOL or have a Sidekick. Although, I know Michaels carries the Sidekicks, and they also keep coupons in their ads.

Currently, I'm using MGI Photo Suite for stitching, cropping, etc. It's just the software that came with my printer/scanner. It does ok, but I'm sure there's better out there. For posting my layouts, I use the SBC Yahoo photos page that is part of my SBC DSL package. There's a lot here that use Webshots, though, so that's another option, too.
