Altered Lamp

My DD had a 5th grade project where all the materials had to be recycled. She got extra credit for the object being useful and for creativity. Most kids in the class made a picture frame. Kasey altered a lamp...see the progress in the "Kids" album at

Absolutely everything could be considered recycled. You'll notice the pop-tab buckles we've discussed here on RCS. It was my first attempt making these buckles. Kasey loved watching the embossing power melt. I've decided I'm going to have to make a few more of these for swapping at crops.

Hope you like the pictures!

Well, I haven't got a clue where to find the beaded sandal; but now I do have a yellow beaded lamp shade! LOL! (Amy rains little gold and paper beads all over Dave!)

"Taking her mom's ability!" Ha! I like to think of it as GROOMING the next generation. ;-)

I'm getting such a kick out of applying scrapbooking techniques to school projects.

That turned out very cute! I've got some of the pop top tabs I need to actually do something with them.

I am LMO at the subject Altered lamp. It just occured to me that I altered my lamp when I fell and the only thing to grab was my lamp!! LOL It is quite altered after it's fall with me to the floor! It is standing very lop sided now.

DD's grade on the lamp came back... she got a 97. An 'A's and 'A', but can you guess why the teacher took 3 points off?

The objective of the project was to use recycled materials right? The teacher took points off because we bought the lamp at the Goodwill store ($4). After my DD explained that the lamp was recycled (pre-owed I think she said), the teacher raised her grade to a 98.

Geesh! To me, Goodwill and other thrift stores are the very definition of recycling!

I agree with you. I suppose your daughter was supposed to find a lamp in a gutter some where? I lived with my Grandma when I was going to college. We lived in an apartment complex and had a huge trash been to throw the trash in. I dreaded when she'd take the trash out. When she took the trash out she'd almost always come back with more than she left. She's usually have something she thought would be perfect for me or my bedroom. Most of the time it was just trash (in my opinion), but sometimes she'd come back with something really good.
