Q1: i want to find something (archival quality of course) to put kai's cord stump in to put in his scrapbook and for the life of me i dont know what to put it in. Q2: what about a wishbone? what to put it in? A1: See if you can make a deep shaker box made of plastic for it.

A2: Not sure

A3: Get the product UnDo from your local LSS. I had a beautiful picture of the world trade center from the staten island ferry and it got stuck to the frame. UnDo removed it without ruining it.

There are clear envelopes that are acrchival quality that I've put seashells in. They come in different sizes and would work well for the cord and the wishbone.

If it is already dried out, you need to pack it in something. There is an epoxy resin at the hardware store that is clear. You just have to be careful with it becuase it sets up really fast. What ever it gets on it is staying on permanently.

Q1 and Q2 - I would think they should be in something that is sealed. Didn't Dave say something one time about using something like a seal-a-meal to seal things using acid free materials?

Sandy you are right!!

Anyhow to even enclose newspaper clippings, ticket stubs, or other very questionable things, i take archival, photo safe page covers like for your albums. Cut them to size the article and I happen to have one of those food sealer machines. They vacuum out the bag then have a heated filament along the edge that heat seals the plastic.

I have had extremely good luck doing this but have had to try a couple samples when I use different companies protectors as the heat sealing time changes.

anther tool you can use is one of those engraver things from MM i think it is. They are much like a wood burning or engraving tool. You just take and VERY CAREFULLY slide the hot tip along the edge too. I had one of those too until it quit. A soldiering iron was TOO HOT!! luckily I tried something practice first!

Anyhow hope this can help some on what to do with those things!!

Dave, When you said that, it reminded me of a tool I bought at the LSS yard sale and have not had a chance to try out. It is a HotMarks and it shows something about doing that with the side of a triangle edge tool tip. I will have to give it a try and let you know how I do. Right now I'm off to hunt for a new washing machine. DH said our old one is beyond repair this time. There goes the money I saved for the barn trip.......now I have to start saving again. We always have around 6 loads just from the daycare on Saturday.Add that to the laundry we have not been able to do for the last five days........we're up past our knees in the basement and it's still growing. Wonder if I can talk DH into a pit stop at a LSS while we're out....... Sandy

I do it a little differently although I have used your method as well. For some things, I take a high quality scan then store the original. That's very important! I originally got into genealogy and continue to be heavily involved. Scrapbooking just goes hand in hand with genealogy :) If it is something bulky that I really *need* to have on the scrapbooking page I enclose the item then use a shaker type box.

Yippee! Another genealogist in the group.

I photograph or scan heirlooms to include in family albums so everyone can share them. Even scanned the family violin! I've used a painting of the family farmhouse (sadly, the house was gone before I was born, so I never got to see it) as the background for pages in the album about that branch of the family.

The painting is also used in the letters on the title page. You can see the painting on Pat_Heirlooms_01b. The violin is on the page after that. Did a lot of scanning on the pages with the travel journal from my great aunt. The cover scan appears on the front page of the section that includes all the text from the journal (of a cruise to the Mediterranean in 1928). Due to the difficulty in reading the text in spots, I included scans of 2 of the pages to show what they looked like, then transcribed the rest. The background for the pages in that section are scans from the very fragile map that came with the journal. She brought presents back for her nieces & nephews, 2 of which I scanned included pics of with the journal. The original objects are all stored safely away, but should something happen to them, copies of the album are scattered around the country so that the heirlooms wouldn't be lost entirely.

  1. I've used both embellishment pockets and 3-D keepsake holders for bulky stuff.
  2. Same thing.
  3. Most of what I've seen and read it's better to get the picture copied.
