Dyeing ribbon

I've stamped on ribbon to try and change it's color, but I hadn't tried the technique I saw today on "Paint, Paper and Crafts" today. The gal had used chalks to color a stamped imagine. Then she used white ribbon and one of the colors of chalks to dye her ribbon to match the card. She took 1 tsp of water placed it in a small plastic container. Scrapped a bit of the matching chalk with an exacto knife into the water. Swirled the color around in the water and then added her ribbon. She stirred the ribbon around for a brief time. Removed ribbon, straighten it out and placed it on a folded paper towel to dry. When dried it matched the card she had made. I really liked the idea of making the ribbon match rather than trying to find ribbon to match.

Hmmmm...interesting. What a great way to have every color of ribbon under the sun :) I like this idea as well. I will have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing with us.

Great idea. I agree this is a lot easier then trying to buy ribbon that matches. Chrissy

I haven't heard of that before, but I'll definately have to try it. I have used ink pad reinkers to dye ribbon before, though. It's about 10 drops of reinker to a tsp of water. It's really fun to play with, less reinker for a lighter shade, more reinker for stronger color. I've dyed ribbon, fiber, and even elastic.
