I met Dave!

Well, after the failed attempt last time Dave was in my area, I finally got to meet him today. He's a great guy! I was the first (so he says) to see his Desert Storm album. He did a wonderful job on the album. I wasn't quite so prepared. He got to see a whole 4 pages that I had done in a school photo album I started this summer.

Poor baby, though. He was on his way to New Orleans, but it is basically closed due to Ivan. Everyone seems to be here in Baton Rouge. He was left trying to find someone to take on his load (since he couldn't get into New Orleans) and trying to find a place to stay. Not a hotel room to be had within 100 mile of us and it takes hours and hours to get anywhere. Unfortunately, my house is so small I didn't really have a place for him to stay, either. :( I did find him a place, but his phone was not working....UGHHHH!!!!

Dave, if you read this...hope you make it home safe and sound and in the very near future!

Nah...we lucked out...Ivan missed us entirely. We got a day off from school though, so that was good.

Thanks so much for all your wonderful help Selena!!! I enjoyed meeting you too and have to say, even with the few pages you had, I am going to scraplift your one way neat idea!!

I got your message you left the next morning and was concerned for you and your dh's too when I head the "tentative" weather forecast, up to 60 mph wind. Anyhow it took me 3 HOURS to go those 20 miles from you over to Port Allen. You would not believe (yea RIGHT!) how many wrecks I saw, and it is so surprising how bad a wreck can occur at the few times when the speed actually got to 20 mph!!

Anyhow I had to sleep across the seat that night when I finally got to where I was going and packed some of the stuff for the freight company to take, only to have them REFUSE totally not to take it the next mornng. Talk about frustrated!!! GRR!!

Finally, Yes Selena, except for Mariann seeing me doing the work in progress on the pages, NO ONE ELSE has seen any of my Desert Storm pictures. Like we talked, they are history, something I treasure but the memories are so real and fresh that they bother me. It is something that every soldier or one who experiences great trauma or significant events has to go thru. I hope you enjoyed them and made some of the things a bit more realistic.

I'm so happy to hear from you Dave. I have been so worried about you. Yes, I can believe how long it took to get to Port Allen. I only live 5 minutes from school and it took me almost 45 minutes to get home due to

2 wrecks in my little area. Unbelievable! My mom was really concerned Wednesday when the darn thing was heading right toward us (until it took that turn north). She must have called about a million times trying to get me to go over there. I watched the news diligently and would have definitely headed over there if Ivan had decided to visit New Orleans instead of Gulf Shores. Thankfully, it all turned out great for us. We even got a day and a half off from school.

I can't even imagine how much time you put into your Desert Storm album. I wish I had a few of those pages to be able to show my students what y'all had to go through.

Your B.O.M. album touched my heart also. It amazes me when someone goes through so much and turns into a wonderful person like you.

By the way, thank you again for the gift. I've had every one that comes into my classroom smell it and try to steal it! Tell your neighbor she does wonderful work.

Hope next time you come through here, it will be under much better circumstances and perhaps I will have a full album to show you!
