Kids and scrapbooking

I've got my 10 year old daughter trained well. I was at a friend's baby shower with my daughter and she played the "measure the mommy's tummy" game with a scrap of yarn. She won. She then started to stick the scrap of yarn in her pocket when everyone else was throwing theirs away. Her room is filed with items that belong in the trash so I thought I catch this one quick. I told her she should throw the yarn away. She looks at me with disbelief and says, "I'm keeping it for Catherine's scrapbook." I've made Catherine an ABC baby scrapbook. I thought what a great idea. I told my daughter "Good thinking!" I made a baby shower page in the ABC album. I glued in the invitation to the party and the "winning" piece of yarn.

Glad my daughter is not the only one who squirrels away trash...she wants to keep everything, even picks up interesting trash from the road and tries to keep it. She hasn't earmarked any of it for her scrapbook yet though...when she makes that connection I am in big trouble!! Arleen

hahaha I've heard one man's trash is another man's treasure, but not if you're living in my house. Yes, I'll help her clean her room and she'll have bottle caps, popsicle sticks, string, dirty beads found here and there. It amazes me. I don't see her come in with this stuff.

Don't feel bad. When DD was about 2 and in daycare, she smuggled rocks (pea gravel) home from the daycare playground. I didn't notice it until I was doing laundry and heard a funny sound in the dryer! Who would think a 2 yr old little girl would smuggle rocks home in her dress pockets???? LOL The daycare director, in jest, said I had to bring back the rocks. LOL Scary part is it became part of my laundry routine to check her pockets....and take the rocks back to daycare. :-)

Wow! I thought it was just my 10 year old DD who did all this, including the rocks!

So far, my DD's scrapping thoughts are limited to camp. I send her with a stack of note paper for her to get autographs from her friends. These become her journal pieces. The first LO's, I cropped all the pictures and allowed her to arrange. This last summer, I gave her all my supplies and said "have at it". She did a great job for a 10-yr old. Just like her school pictures etc. we'll be able to watch her talents grow. For me these LO's are memories in themselves.

How cute! I predict a great future in scrapbooking for your daughter. You might want to start a scrapbook fund for the little flass in training right now. Never mind saving for college, LOL!

Passing tissue to AMy. My daughter did the same thing. I still have a heart shape rock she confiscated from outside the Blockbuster in Santa Clara, CA. It has a prominent sitting spot in one of my potted plants.
