Making a Scrapbook

Hi, Newbie here, I want to make a scrapbook of my daughter's wedding, I have started collecting all the relevant bits and pieces but I thought I would like to make the actual scrapbook rather than buying one. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. Many thanks in advance.

PS posted this originally to alt.crafts.scrapbooks but it doesn't seem like a lot is posted there.

If you want some really hands on help go to your local scrapbook store. They are usually very helpful and have beginner classes that are always fun.

Jan,

I THINK that what you are asking about is how to make the actual album as well as doing the LOs. This seems like a huge undertaking as I've done dozens of scrapbooks and to do a beautiful 2-page LO typically takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on intricacy and detail involved and I am concerned that you may be biting off more than you realize as you will likely have upwards of 30 completed scrapbook pages for your daughter. My second concern is the longevity and durabilty of a Homemade book vs a book made by, say, Creative Memories which has 70 years of making albums behind it and creates it's albums so they will last, backing it up with a 100% guarantee of quality for the lifetime of the purchaser. This is the route I would suggest you take. (I don't know how to "make" a large album, so I cannot help you that way). Here is the link for Creative Memories UK:

you should be able to find a consultant through that website to help you meet your needs. Here is the US link to albums by Creative Memories:

where you can see some of the various choices available, by clicking on the "specialty" link you can see the window coverset which is a beautiful choice for a wedding album. With all the love you are going to be pouring into your daughter's wedding album, shouldn't it be protected in the best album? Thank you very much for that advice and I think you are right. I think I will look about for a while and when the long winter evenings are here will make a start.

Very Best Wishes

It's quite easy to make a little pocket-sized gift album... but for a wedding album you probably want a full-sized one and it's much easier to just buy it - the work in a wedding album is in the layout and design of the pages, not the cover... plus there are lots of lovely albums out there to choose from! Some of them can even be personalised, so you can draw/paint/sew a cover decoration to make it unique...

You can personalize a plain bought album by covering it with almost anything. My daughter does this with fabric. She makes wedding albums by taking a simple plain album and covers it with padding, fabric, lace and other embellishments. The result is beautiful, and doesn't take her very long. Even if all you do is cover it with stick-on fabric and a fancy nameplate, you have something that is uniquely yours.

Jan,

First of all I would like to welcome you to the NG, as I am also in the UK. What you have suggested in your post is admirable but I believe it would be difficult to achieve when just starting out. If you go to

and look in their Craft Store under Albums they have a couple of beautiful albums you could customise...one in white mulberry and the other white silk. Neither are too expensive and may fit the bill nicely without breaking the bank. Take care, Marilyn

Thank you all very much for your advice. Just been to the website and will definitely order one of the 12 x 12. Best Wishes to you all and especially those affected by Katrina.
