Newbie here -

I've been watching the interaction of this group for about 6 weeks, and I think you're really a nice group. I've enjoyed the various layouts at Webshots and other sites, and I'm collecting some ideas.

My name is Arliss, and I live in North Dakota. We have not had much winter here this year, so don't feel too sorry for me (but we really do need the moisture, so those of you on the east coast can feel free to send it back here). I'm currently employed - and have been for 32 years - by the ND Department of Health, Division of Vital Records. Yes, I started working there when I was about 10. ;-)

I am addicted to needlework - cross stitch, hardanger, etc. I have very little of my work in my home. My mother and youngest sister have gotten much of it. I also like to read.

I'm working on my first scrapbook - a 12x12. My mother took a New England tour, flying into Boston just 2 1/2 weeks after 9/11. Last November, I spent 4 days at her house, working on labeling those pictures, as well as many many many many (etc.) others.

I do have a question. I bought a piece of mesh yesterday at my LSS to attach to a page with 2 so-so pictures of a rocky shore somewhere between Gloucester, MA, and Portland, ME. I have no idea how to attach this to the page, and I didn't think to ask the clerk at the store. It's not Magic Mesh. Please point me in the right direction. BTW, this scrapbook is not going to be "out there," as I don't think my mother would appreciate that. This is the only embellishment besides stickers that I'm planning to use; I wouldn't even use the mesh, except that the pictures are pretty blah and really need something to liven up the page. Please don't tell Mom that I said that.

I am somewhat of a lurker, so don't expect a lot of "noise" from me.

Hi Arliss,

How nice of you to make a scrapbook for your mom. Have you considered glue dots for the mesh? they are near invisible and hold things in place very, very well. Please don't be too shy and come out and play from time to time.

Hi Arliss,

I have family is South Dakota and they say this has been a record winter for the Dakotas -- very little moisture.

Well welcome to the group. I'm from NYC and a relative newbee as well (ok since about November?) and I hope that you won't lurk too much but chat with us and ignore the dumb posts we get from time to time.

Welcome to RCS Arliss! I've used a regular adhesive roller on mesh, but I think some type of glue dots might work better. You could also try sewing it on. Please don't hesitate to post. You'll find this a very talented, creative, sharing group. Glad to have you here!

Hi Arliss! Go ahead and lurk. Just be sure to come back out and ask away whenever you feel the need. I think what you have is maruyama paper. I love that stuff, but haven't used it much. I just used photo tabs and covered them w/ a pic. Hopefully someone else has some better ideas. I'm curious too. Thanks for asking.
