Surprises abounded in my inbox today. I wrote the women who made the focal point bead on my mother's necklace to say how my necklace came out. They wrote back and want to publish it in their marketing paperwork. I'm getting $1,500 for my image. I'm also getting published on their website once they update it

with two of my business links.
I'm so excited. Here's the necklace that made it:

{{running to the bank to deposit the money into the house fund}}}
The money is strictly earmarked for the house fund.
We went to an open house yesterday and cried. It was perfect:
3 bedrooms
2.5 baths (one bath was a sunken spa tub) full eik with all the bells and whistles covered deck finished bathroom Living room Dining room garage (oh so important in queens)
House was a row house attached on both sides
would need the floors re done and the deck was leaning a little too much to the right.
It's amazing the differences a location makes. Here an $750,000 house would be a total mansion. My friend is looking at houses, too. This is one she went to see: "Lovely Cape Cod Style 2 story brick home with large living room, remodeled kitchen, 3 bedrooms, bath and bonus room. Full walkout unfinished basement with fireplace. Large brick patio. Home has hardwood floors, newer carpet, high eff. furnace, replacement windows. Very pretty landscaping, 3 tree filled acres, stocked pond, storage bldg. price reduced $119,900.
Good luck with your search. DH and I house hunted for several months our third year of marriage and finally decided to buy the "old" house from my grandmother and fix it up ourselves as then we were horrified at the prices and we were looking at $30-40,000 homes. We took a $10,000 old 2 bedroom, 1 bath house and completely gutted it, added a wrap-around L shape to the side and back and ended up with a four bedroom, two full bath, laundry room, family room, living room, kitchen, dining room, and walk-in pantry. Of course it took us twenty years to get it done - a little at a time. Sandy
Congratulations, Kate! The necklace for your mother is truly beautiful. You said the picture of your necklace will be used in the marketing materials - will you be credited in it?
Kate my husband as well as several of our neighbors all work in NY but live here in Pa. It is a long commute but it is possible to buy a 3 bedroom, 2 bath single family home (no basements as the water table is too high) for half that price in the lower end of the county. (by lower end I am referring its location ) The only problem is you must drive/carpool because the train fare is over a hundred bucks each way. With the money you save you can buy a second house up in the Poconos where everyone is either from here or from Long Island LOL.
My mom gets to keep the necklace. She may have to give it up for it to be professionally photographed but it will be returned to her.
In as much as Larry & I would love to move out of state his NYC contract won't let him. We must (under penalty of being fired) remain within the boroughs of Manhattan. We can move to LI but we'd have to pay the NYC taxes that we currently forfit for living within the boroughs.
Congratulations Kate! That is marvelous news, both the necklace being published and the check. I'm so happy for you guys and house hunting. Even if you don't find the house right away, the right house for you, and the right price is out there. Of course, the necklace is gorgeous, so we really shouldn't be surprised at it being published. :-) Keep us updated!
