OT: Banana peppers

Someone gave my hubby lot of banana peppers & jalepeno peppers. What kind of thread do I need to thread them and hang them up?? I love banana peppers (my hubby love the hot ones). I know I will have to rinse them off and get ready to thread them. Any advices??? I really appreciates it. Thanks! Marcie

See page 182 in "The Pepper Garden" by Dave Dewitt.

He has a section on making rista's and wreath's. Here is my go of it...

Materials:

  1. Peppers (fresh, not dried)
  2. Sturdy cotton string.
  3. Staightened out coat hanger

Start with 3 pods and tie together at the pod stems by wrapping around twice then bring the string up between any two of the three pods. Make a half hitch knot aroung the stems and pull tight.

Start again with 3 pods just above the first and continue for 4 or 5 sets depending on the size of the pepper pods. With Cayenne's you could string more on the same string. Cut the string, leaving a little extra, and start again until all peppers are tied up.

Braid the string of pods around the coat hanger like braiding hair. Interleave the hanger with two pods in each cluster in each string. When complete, bend the hanger into a circle.

Dry in full sun hanging from a rafter and be sure the inside pods are fully dried to prevent mold and rot. This may not be possible in very humid areas or conditions.

NMSU!!! I went there!

Sorry, I get excited when I see other people including NM. There's actually people in the US who don't understand that NEW Mexico really is part of the United States. It's a running joke in NM about being a 'foriegn country'. LOL

Ok...going back to menus and grocery lists now.
