Did anybody feel any shaking going on about 4:30 this morning? I had just gotten up to use the bathroom, went back to bed, (I am still sick..called in to work today) and my bedroom window started rattling like crazy. I thought it was just the wind again, as we have had some high winds lately, and thunderstorms were on the way. I thought I even heard thunder! Well, when we all got up this morning it was on the news that it was an earthquake! The rumbling I heard wasnt thunder. No damage reports, just rumbling and shaking, thank goodness!!

Sandy, everybody ok down there in Evansville?

We felt it here, Danville IL. Felt my whole house shake.

I didn't feel it here in Lafayette. We was sound a sleep. Normally I'm a light sleeper. People I work with felt it. My sister felt it Georgetown. It woke her and the dog up. She thought it was thunder.

I thought you were joking at first. That's a goodly sized quake... said by someone who lives in California and has experienced many a quake. Glad to hear everyone is OK.

Linda - I live in Central IL (Bloomington) and it hit down here. I didn't feel it though -- I was still sound asleep at that time! My brother lives in Crawfordsville and the quake actually woke him up! Its pretty crazy, and its ALL the buzz around my office today!

i was supposedly in one while in Japan in 1966-1967 and then in CAlifornia a bit after that. I was too young to remember. My mother said a few hit Amarillo Texas but were light but she knew they were earthquakes. I guess all I have for my personal experience is seeing a tornado a few yrs ago that was less then 2 miles east of me. First and hopefully last time for me I hope.

I was watching a few newsreports on te internet then i got engrossed in the stupidity of the people at El Dorado texas thing that is going on... another Waco thing with David Keresh if you ask me!

We had an aftershock at 10:15 this morning too. I was more awake for that one..Wow!! I never would have thought that in my life I would experience an earthquake. Its really kind of a weird thing.

I just heard about this on CNN. I am glad everyone seems to be okay. That one was pretty big. We have been through several here in Hawaii. Earthquakes are interesting things.

They said on the news it was a 5.2. I am from California originally and lived with quakes more than 20 years. That does have some kick to it. I have been in much larger, but when you're not used to quakes that's enough to scare you silly!

And also a very interesting coincidence. Today is the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake that burned San Francisco down.

We really got a good jolt here. We sleep upstairs and had the kids (1 year old grandson here for a visit, too) downstairs and under the dining room table and us in the doorways before it ever ended. We have a frame house that sits on a hill and it seemed to really rattle it good. The minute I felt it I knew exactly what it was as I lived in this same house in 1968 when we had a decent one here. I guess the sound and feeling never leaves you. My DH thought it was a storm at first, but realized how serious I was and down we went. My only thought was to move far enough to not be over the basement part of the house. It rattled the windows good and the house creaked at it settled back down for at least a couple of minutes after it was over. The small aftershock after the first one was very light, but I could hear and feel it in the walls. After it was over I walked into the office and found several things had been knocked off the shelves. One thing was a large photo that was on a stand of this house after the tornado of 1990 hit it. I told DH it was Mother Nature's way of letting us know we are not in charge here. The second one at 11:15 EST really upset the little ones here at the day care. It has been the talk of the day. My oldest DD called me and four of her five children woke up during it. (They live in a trailer). One grandson complained as he couldn't keep his blanket on the bed because the shaking kept knocking it off. Oldest granddaughter slept through it and is upset because everyone else felt it but her.

This earthquake was the talk of the town today, home, school and on the news. Sandy I am thankful that you and your family are alright. When I heard how close it was to your town, I immediately thought of you! It was kind of scary, but yet kind of exciting to make national news and all!

We did, it woke us up. After all the years of living in California, I have never felt one like the one today. Usually they are a sharp jolt and then a rolling motion. This one was constant shaking for about 30 seconds, maybe being on the 7th floor had something to do with it. When it was over, Steve said well that one was about a 5 (it was a

5.2) It was kind of scary. No one was able to go back to sleep. I only got about 2 hours sleep last night because I stayed up until 2:00 am scrapping.

The one at 10:16 was a 4.5, but still a good shake. The funniest thing here was the NBC station had no clue. They knew it was an earthquake but they didn't know where to look for information about it. It took them about an hour and a half to figure it out. Meanwhile the ABC station was right on top of things and had someone from the US Geological Survey office on the phone about a half hour after it happened.

I felt that one Linda. It was really small and last just a few seconds. I didn't know what it was until I watched the news. It thought is might of been, but at the church the pastor didn't say anything. So I thought it was just wind just shaking things a bit.

I'm not real sure how i missed the 10:15 aftershock...I was sitting at my desk and didn't notice a THING! And my husband was in a new construction house that had just been framed out in the middle of nowhere and didn't feel a thing. I swear the EQ just skipped over both places i was in when the original and aftershock hit! I would've really liked to experience it, mostly because no one was hurt and it was minor! Darn! I knew I was too heavy of a sleeper! =)
