OT: Expolsion Here Tonite

I just have to tell someone, but tonite during our OU home game with KS (we won!) there was a large explosion near the stadium in Norman with almost 84k people there!! Anyhow it is a suicide one and a second one was found and detonated.

Again here in the heartland where WE as Americans don't think this happens. It will,be big news I am sure tomorrow everywhere.

It is so sad what is going on in today's society all the hatred, fear and selfishness. WE ALL NEED to be vigilante and protect orselves, famil and our country.

Don't mean to scare anyone but am kinda in shock over it and had to tell someone.

OMG Dave you're right I haven't heard anything about it on the news and can't find anything about it on the internet. I sure hope everyone was alright.

Google news has quite a few links to stories. Looks like The Guardian in the UK picked it up off the wire & is carrying it, too.

I was born in the Midwest & spent 5 years in college there, but have spent most of my life in the D.C. & L.A. areas. So, while I hope nothing tragic happens on a grand scale, I've always had the feeling it could happen in my neighborhood. Maybe it was growing up with bomb drills living just outside D.C.

Agreed.

The story is on CNN.com now. Apparently the only casualty was the man with the bomb, who was killed. But he was very close to the crowd in the stadium. This is scary, especially right after the bombings in Bali. It's enough to make one very nervous about crowds.

So if something really really major happens it will take them 4 hours? UGH.

OMG! I haven't heard anything about this. I have the news on this morning and nothing on there. How scarey. Makes you worry about large crowds.

OMG! I am so glad no one else was injured!!! My DH is a fairly big college football fan so this is something that hits a little to close to something that we really enjoy doing.

Wonder how that missed the Sunday football shows! Didn't hear about it nor did DH say anything.

That has been a scary thought for me since 9/11... my dad and his wife spend all home games with another 105K crazed nuts fans at Ohio Stadium, cheering on the Buckeyes. (In fact CG and I were there in 2002 for TSUN (aka michigan) game and in 2003, DH CG and I were all there for the home opener)

That's a lot of people packed into one small space when you think of it. I know dad doesn't worry too much. WE ALL can't worry too much or our lives stop there and then.

So glad no one was hurt other than the one suicide. I live a vigilient life and have always tried to as we are a military family.

I so appreciate your mentioning it. Dad goes to PennState this weekend for the game there.

Of course there is a BIG investigation going on and all kinds of rumours flowing. The big one of course is WHO was it (he) and because Zacharrias Mussawi (the terrorist pilot who missed his connection or something and was caught day or two before 9-11) was here, is there some correlation.

The kid was a 21 yo engineering student from Colorado. They do nt kn why yet and as I am writing this they still have all around his apartment where he lived on campus blocked off where they are finding other componets he left behind.

Yes it is scary that it happened SO CLOSE to so many people and the question now is should they make even larger perimeters near large events like this to check people, and why did it take little more than two hours to even tellpeople nearby that saw or heard it that something happened? Doh!

And you wonder why I do not like crowds of people!!

I must say that it is a horrible way to commit suicide. Thank goodness that no one else was injured. I am sure that over the next few days, we will hear a lot more about who and why. Sounds like it wasn't that big a deal to the people in the stadium... the game continued! But then again football games are sacred.

Oh my goodness....I hadn't heard anything about this. But, then again, I didn't watch much TV over the weekend. I hope the authorities can get to the bottom of it, and find out why.
