OT - I'm Back Too!

Hi everyone! Well, I'm all dried up! LOL! We have gotten our basement cleaned up and settled with the insurance company. It has been a stressful three weeks - didn't have a hot water tank for 2 1/2 of those weeks. We are looking forward to stepping back and forgetting about this disaster. I am looking forward to doing some scrapping - I have a lot of pictures for my "flood pages" and I will tell you that having to go through this sure puts a new perspective on things. All in all we were very very lucky and I certainly feel for anyone who has to go through any type of natural disaster! So Happy Birthday to everyone & hi to the newbies!

It would take quite a lot where I'm at now (& much of the city would be under water) for me to expierience a true flood. But I have had my share of other water problems (leaks in the pipes upstairs [I own a condo with 2 units above me -- not on the ground floor, tho, since the garage is below me] & rainwater coming in thru cracks in the exterior stucco & soaking my carpet 6 feet into the living foom). I keep meaning to go to a marine/boat supply store & buy waterproof storage bins for my family photos & other important items that could be damaged by water (or bugs). Since my albums are digital & I keep 2 copies (one at work, one at home) of them on CD, I can always print more of those. Wouldn't even take a "flood". A fire in the building could have resulting water damage even if items weren't fire or smoke damaged.

Might be a thought for those of you who's scrapping workspace is in a basement or on the ground floor.

You have a good point Alicia I am so glad that we just used our basement for storage - I had brought up the photo albums about 6 months ago, so I am very happy about that. I plan on scanning all my scrapbooks as I do a layout and putting it on CD for safekeeping - hopefully I will never have to use them!
