Hi! Can I play too?

I've been reading this group for a couple of months, and y'all sound like so much fun. I couldn't help but laugh, cry and pray with you as I read all the emails. I think I'm ready to unlurk, but I've never been in a newsgroup before. I read the FAQ's. I have so much enjoyed the photos of all the beautiful quilts that I've seen you finish. Please, please let me join......I have chocolate....... BJ

You said the magic words, BJ! ;) Sure, come on over to the cyber quilt frame and join us. :) What sorts of quilts do you like? Have you been quilting long? Do you have pictures you can post somewhere of any you've made? Do you have QIs? Pat will want to check out your chocolate -- heck, *all* of us will want to check out your chocolate! LOL! Welcome!

Hi BJ,

I'm new too -- just unlurked in the last week or two. This is a friendly place. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. I'm still learning names and other significant information, like who REALLY likes chocolate. :) :)

I'm so excited. I know some of you have actually been here for years so I'll take my seat in the circle quietly, mind my manners and be prepared to share my chocolate - if I ever get any.

stats: married 39 years, 2 grown children, 2 grandbabies - boys (I want so badly to tell you they are THE cutest in the universe, but I don't want to start any problems, retired for few years after teaching history for 30+, one piece of a dog - Killer - a 9 pound poodle, 2 cats.

I started quilting Jan. 2004. I just gathered some photos of projects and put them at:

. It seems like I have always wanted to quilt, but I didn't know how to get started. When I retired I mentioned it to some friends and they introduced me to some wonderful ladies at their church who meet weekly and took me under their wing. Since I had never even read anything about quilting, I jumped in with a very ambitious queen-sized project (the red/black one) that required me to make my own striped material - yards of it. It did make me a pro at sewing quarter inch seams!! The first grandson came 2 years ago and inspired a round of baby quilts that were much easier - I've made 5 raggedy denims now. Then the 'Falling Leaves' -queen-size again. My DD begged, pleaded, and sneaked the first 2 quilts out of the house. I changed the locks on the doors and started what has turned out to be my passion - hand-pieced quilts. I have finished one twin size and hand-quilted it and am almost finished with the second one. It will be a while before I can quilt it because I have 'Quilter's Thumb' - otherwise known as trigger-finger. Surgery will be July 20th and the doc assures me I will quilt again and once he fixes it, it will not reoccur. I sure hope not, anyone know if I can trust him? I'm thinking of naming the first h-p, h-q quilt "From Atlanta to Houston and Back Again". I'm in a small town near Macon, GA and my GS's are in Houston, Texas!!!! Luckily, my wonderful DIL is a flight attendant and has me listed as her flying companion, so I go A LOT....usually 2 times a month...sometimes more. It's cheaper to fly me out to baby sit than it is to hire someone. The first quilt took about 16 trips. The one I'm working on now was done mostly in front of the TV while recuperating from bronchitis caused by allergies. I couldn't go to TX for a whole 5 weeks!!

I honestly don't think I have any favorite colors. I don't really like neon bright stuff, but even it seems to work its way into a scrappy quilt, and I love - LOVE - scrappy quilts.

Well, enough about me!! The main reason I delurked was that I want a directory so I can be sure I can keep all of you straight. I'm watching for how to sign up for the next one. I love that this is a world wide group. My DIL took me to Rome and Paris BK (before kids) and we are hoping to travel again - someday.

BJ

PS - due to an allergy to chocolate that seems to result in large weigh gains, I'm not allowed to keep any around the house, but I absolutely can not pass by a chocolate chip cookie and they sell lots of them at airports. It's becoming an extreme problem.........

Hi BJ. Welcome! I live in SC, up near Greenville. Emily---known at cyp---lives in Houston and is now visiting family in Spartanburg area of SC (close to me) and we try to meet up once a year. I don't think she will mide me telling that bit of information as she has neighbors guarding her stash in Houston. She will be back to reading the ngs and posting soon. Oh yeah, I know where Macon is, in case you feel the need to invite some of us to come on down and share in the chocolate! Barbara in SC

Chocolate?

*pats chair nearby* Come on over and sit next to me. Welcome to the nicest place to come hang out ever. It's like a big family here. We talk quilting, family, pets and whatever else comes along. Everyone is very helpful and I love it! I honestly don't remember how long I've been here, a few years at least. Time flies when you're having fun! Debi (in for a long day, work *and* class....Ugh)

Welcome BJ! You've done some terrific work for a relatively new quilter. Hope the surgery goes well and you're back to quilting soon.

Thanks for de-lurking. Your work is lovely. You mentioned that you fly at least twice a month, are you able to bring your hand work on the place? I've wondered if they became more lenient regarding scissors and what not.

Thanks for sharing your work.

Thank you sooo much. I am over prideful - I had never sewn before I started this. Luckily, the thumb only keeps me from quilting - but the top I'm working on may turn out to be California King size if I can't stop and quilt it soon!
