Hi, some of you may remember me. I used to post here a few years ago. I haven't been posting because I haven't been quilting for a couple of years. Now I come to type that it sounds pretty stupid - I could still have been posting here couldn't it? The quilt police wouldn't have arrested me for Posting to a Quilting Newsgroup Under False Pretences. I have been crafting - sewing and knitting and rag-rugging and all sorts of things. And I've been busy growing vegetables and keeping chickens and bees and teaching guitar to 5-11-y-o kids and writing a blog about sustainable living (at
I've kept in touch sporadically with Johanna Gibson (it's me who is sporadic, she's a much more reliable correspondent than I). I see a few names I recognise still posting here in rctq, although a few old friends seem to have left. Lots of new names posting here now, too, I hope they'll become new friends if you'll have me back.
The quilting bug bit me a week or two ago and I pulled all my stash out and a big bag of scraps Johanna gave me when she visited two years ago. I've made 100 6.5" scrappy blocks of various kinds - wonky log cabins, postage stamps, string-pieced and crazy quilted. This morning I cut 100
6.5" squares from all the blue fabrics in my stash to set checkerboard-style with the pieced blocks. I mean to piece these into a
7' square bed quilt and a lap quilt (they'll need borders to get them that size, I hope I can do it entirely from my stash, only buying the batting). They'll be a gift for my dad.
Whilst I've been piecing I've been thinking about you chaps a lot. Will you have me back?
