Pix: Challenge Quilt completed

Here's a pix of my entry in our guild's challenge for 2007. Theme: World Travel. Fun to do; knew I would incorporate some penguins in a quilt sometime .

The whole picture is so atmospheric, Bronnie. I remember the pictures you showed us from Antarctica. Love the penguins - and, of course you had to include them, they are natural stars! I'm sure your quilt will be much admired. . In message , Bronnie writes

Howdy!

And I knew you'd have to do a quilt with this theme, sometime!

Gorgeous quilt, Bronnie. I'd give it a 1st Place--Blue Ribbon... but the ribbon would just get lost on there. ;-)

Cheers! R/Sandy

Bronnie, that's a *wonderful* quilt! You're so good at putting things like this together. :) I love those penguins, and adding the photos makes this a terrific memento of your trip. Congratulations! :D

What a gorgeous quilt. I love all the undulating blues and blue/whites. I never imagined looking at a quilt (about the warmest thing I can imagine) would make me feel chilly.

Thanks ladies for your kind comments! The exhibition isn't until April -- hope the snow doesn't melt!!

I found the background fabric at Spotlight (our Joannes type store here). Just luck as I ferreted around with the completed centre panel, not at all confident something would jump out at me or even what to look for. And then, wow. It is in one piece, the pattern across the bolt, exactly in proportion to the placement. I then quilted along the 'waves' in metallic threads, changing color a couple of times. It just reminds me of the 6000metre deep southern ocean that surrounds the island continent of Antarctica. Postcript, I went back and bought another half metre to add to my stash, sure to be useful.

Bravo! I love how you included a few photos without detracting from the focal point, that delightful penguin scene. PAT

Brrr! Your quilt captures what I always think about the Antarctic-- cold with penguins. Cool penguins, btw! (No pun intended--really.)

Wow! You couldn't have commissioned a piece of fabric that would have been more perfect! What luck! And adding more to your stash is merely the logical, rational thing to do. ;)
