OT: London Bombings

I read the news this moring about the bombing in London. My prayers go out to all who are involved. I have such a hard time understanding this kind of devastation. It is scary and destroys a person't sense of security. I remember how hard it was to maintain a sense of balance after the tornado struck us in 1990. I didn't want to let my family, especially the children out of my sight. Just when I thought all was well again 9/11 happened. Now this. I know the number of injuries and deaths do not compare to New York in 2001, but to each individual involved the feelings and emotions are the same. I know myself that I can never look at a weather report of a pending storm or the sky as a storm approaches the same as I did before. My heart goes out to the people who lost their lives, for those who were injured and for the loved ones of all of the victims. Sandy

I just turned on BBC America and am floored. My prayers go out to the families of the people who were just trying to get to work.

It is just like 9-11-01 here in the City. Just innocent people trying to get to work. I'm shaking so hard and crying that I can't even believe this has happened.

I just hope Tony Blair (Prime Minister of England) now goes into Afganistan and blow the f***ing country's mountainsides into small ant hills and shows President Bush how to deal with the right country.

I gotta go and do some crafting until my Therapist can call me back. God give us all strength.

Hugs, Kate

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with this. Who know how many innocent men woman and children live in those mountainsides who could also be hurt or killed? You can't go after a 'country' when it is a small majority of the people who live in that country who are radicals. *IF* the people who even did this are from there. There are radical muslims in our own backyard.

My heart goes out to those who lost their lives, and I do hope a speedy recovery for all those who suffered injuries in the London explosions. Another black day for London.......

Cleo, I know in my heart you are right that there would be innocents lost who are just normal people doing their every day tasks.

BUT---

So weren't the INNOCENT Londoners trying to get to work, school, run errands, driving the bus or subway.

So weren't the INNOCENT people in the Twin Towers who were going to job interviews, hosting a party in the resturant, answering emails, talking to colleagues, putting their bags away.

So weren't the INNOCENT people working in the Pentagon.

So weren't the INNOCENT people on the flight that crashed into Pennsylvania.

So weren't the INNOCENT military men and women who were forced to go to Iraq to finish a war that the First President Bush never finished yet are being attacked by Insurgents on a daily basis and yet we call them terrorists.

Just remember is was Bin Laden who attacked London and New York and Washington DC and his home base of opperations is AFGANISTAN.

After 4 years how the heck hard is it to find a 6' 5" Arab Man on Dialsis?

I'm so saddened by this. I have a friend who works in London. Have tried to contact her via cellphone, but the services are off. I'm to scared to phone her folks....

I fail to see why people just can't live in harmony with each other :((( There's a place in the sun for all of us :*((

I felt the same after the WTC, Pentagon and Flight 93. I finally changed my mind after I calmed down and thought of the children who might die, more people because of one a man and his warped group. That would just make him happier as they are no longer living the Islamic life according to Bin Laden and the Taliban. We're not even sure he is in Afghanistan any more. I do understand the feelings Kate, and the anger at what is done to the innocents.

Dear Kate, dear friends,

Of all of us regulars, I know that this must hit you just about the hardest, Kate. My first thought this morning was for those who got caught in the middle of all of this in London. The victims, those who died, those who were injured, those who saw things they never should have to see, those, who like you did on September 11th, Kate, will wait many long hours to make sure their loved ones didn't get hurt or worse. Those again like you dear Kate, who will walk so many miles to go home and wait for a loved one, hoping that he or she will show up.

My second thought was for you dear Kate and all those like you. It is always saddest when so many are hurt by so few. Sad for us all when we see the depth of hatred that inhabits the heart of those who would kill without regard. In the midst of this chaos, it is hard to remember that we are all brothers and sisters and that their hate may touch our bodies, we can't help that, but only we can let their hatred into our souls, into our hearts. That is their ultimate goal and would be their ultimate triumph. Because hate begets hate and the next thing you know, we start picking at all our differences, bringing up century old injuries and start killing each other over the stupidest things.,

. We suddenly forget that our collective strength is in loving each other, celebrating both our similarities and our differences. No matter how frustrating this all is, we all have one thing in common, we all want to leave this world a better place for our children. I think today we need to pray, wish for, think about, and do at least one thing, in our own special way, to make the world a better place for all of those our lives can touch, and all of those whose lives they can touch. We are not powerless. We are never powerless. Each of us has the capacity to change one life at a time, starting with our own.

We cannot ignore terrorists, but we don't have to give them the power to make us hate.

The answer is not to kill more innocent people.

The answer is not to kill more innocent people.

The answer is not to kill more innocent people.

The answer is not to kill more innocent people.

I'm not sure who you are claiming that we call terrorists. Part of the job description for military service is going to war if called upon to do so. Considering that joining the military is voluntary in the US it is unfair to claim that military men and women are forced to go since that is what their freely chosen job happens to be. I wouldn't blame President Bush because the war is still ongoing, there are still terrorists that seek to intimidate and kill their own fellow citizens, and in many cases these terrorists aren't even Iraqi's and they are blowing up innocent people in Iraq.

  1. Evidently it is harder to find him than some people think.
  2. It is a mistake to think that terrorism will go away should bin Laden be captured or killed.

What happened yesterday is a tradegy but the answer is not to go attacking innocent people. I think we ought to stick with the game plan of finding those responsible and bringing them to justice otherwise we would be operating the same way as they do.

Very well said,M-C. I just sat numbd by all this inhumanity, remembering the wonderful time I spent in London, riding the Underground and the double decker buses. I cannot even begin to understand how anyone could be convinced that taking the lives of innocent people would be justified. I am adding my prayers to all those of people everywhere who want peace and kindness to win.

MC - Thank you for a very well put commentary.

I can undertand the hurt and anger. Unfortunately, it breeds only more hurt and anger.

My heart goes out to those in London, and all of you who have had to re-live terrible memories.

I feel saddenned and hurt too for innocent victims that are killed or hurt in sensess things like this OR WAR.

that is what is propelling me to write. I was in Desert Storm, albeit not on the front lines. Yes, the first Bush did not finish the war, BUT BECAUSE of the whiney ass, overpaid politians that WE put in office he could not. He knew saddam was a key figure in this type of crap, but the whinel ass conservatives were worried about innocent, collateraldamage victims, the COST and that we should follow the line of the letter that the UN drew out, force them back out of Kuwait.

Yes, I DESPISE the current Bush. He is a warmonger. He is very selfish and non committal over the price of oil today and HE IS AGAINST helping, adding to Veterans programs. I is sad how money and terror affects people's minds and wills.

Bush only cares about his image. Look at his own party now turning agianst him because of his arrogance of his eliefs thatit is just a fact of life to he innocent victims, oil prices are hgh because it is the cycle of productivity. The nly vet's getting help in EVEN THE CURRENT WAr are those that get public attention or help from politians. it is a shame that vets are treated this way. Nam vets are REAL proof of this. Desert Storm Vets, with various syntpthoms of the Persian Gulf Syndrome, well those are just that, symphtoms. No help, no nothing just pat os on th ebutt and on your way. Nam vets went thru it and so did the WWIi guys.

MC put it all exceptionllly well. We ALL need to learn to look at both sides of everything. We as a FREE people need to look at the freedoms WE have and know how we came to get them. Yes We are to blame for a lot in today's world, but our freedoms are really causing a lot of the problems not only here, but verywhere because we feel that ALLpeople should be equal. that is why our judicial system is prodding in everything taking away YOUR rights to even what was considered in this country a privelege, the right to lay legal and possesive claim to physical property. Not no more an d that even includes churches now.

So we all need to support one another, pray for those who do bad and know that the Lords will, (even Muslims believe in ONE God) will prevail and if you do wrong THEY will answer to whoever's higher being.

OK i have ranted now, I feel saddened by it all, I do remember all in my prayers, but we here are a family if you will because we share a piece of "space" that many in other places only yearn for, not to mention a truly rewarding hobby, outlet or addiction!!

On that note may I suggest that we leave extreme judgmental personal opinions for political newsgroups and focus on scrapping in this group?
