OT: NYC Trip and New Camera

I thought I'd answer Sabrina's question about the trip and Lynne's question about the camera in a new OT tread.

The NYC trip was fast and furious and there wasn't all that much time, but I did get to go shopping mostly at Macy's since it was a block from the hotel. I also took a bus tour of the downtown area which took some 4.5 hours on Friday. DH's video taping of a lawyerly lecture, which was the reason for the trip in the first place, went very well and the owner of the company which will release the tape and his wife Margo were really wonderful people. They took us out to what they called the third most popular nouveau american cuisine restaurant in NYC called Gotham Bar and Grill for supper on Thursday night. We really did have a great time and there is talk of a new project for DH with this company that could culminate in his presenting on a 3-day Carribean cruise in April and which could result in his making a new tape. (I guess cruises for lawyers and would be lawyers exist just like they do for scrapbookers!)

DH gave me a spending spree budget since he was kept busy while we were there so that I could have some fun shopping and sightseeing. One of the things I purchased was a new digital camera. It's my wedding anniversary present as our anniversary is the 28th. I am so glad that I bargained because I ended up paying about $150 less than the starting price they were asking. I normally do a lot more checking than I did this time so I was glad to find that the price I paid is as low as the lowest price on the internet. The camera is a Kyocera M410R. And I guess the link below will do a better job than I can of all the details.

What I tell you is that it has a 10x optical zoom (major drool) and is really intuitive to use. I love zooms and the more optical zoom the better! The camera also has a 60x digital zoom, continuous shots and because of that technology, it's really quick to take a shot and reload for the next one (0.07 seconds). Losing the ability to take candid shots has always been one of my pet peeves with digitals aas compared to my old 35mm. The new camera also takes amazing night time pictures that look exactly the way you see it! I'll use some of them on my NYC layout and I"ll post some of those I don't use as well so that you can see what I mean. No trip is complete without an aircraft delay story these days so here is ours. When we got on the plane in Memphis on our way back to Little Rock, the Captain came on the intercom and told us they had found a puddle of hydrawlic fuel on the tarmac. We were actually fortunate as it was a loose fitting to one of the engines and after we were deplaned, they were able to fix it rather quickly. This being my 3rd encounter with a plane with hydrawlic problems I was surprised as every other time the delay was either

12 hours waiting for the part to be flwon in (happened in the Dominican Republic many years ago) or a new plane had to be brought in and made ready as happened about 4 years ago in Atlanta. In the end all was well and we were only about 80 minutes late.

At any rate, it's now time for me to get readyg for my son's Thanksgiving visit. Thanks for the sweet potato recipe, Sabrina!

M-C - the Big Apple - My most favorite city in the US. Of course born and raised on LI - kind of influences that. Sounds like you had a great time - Will you also go on the cruise???

Congrats on the new camera! The specs are great - I'll be anxious to see the pictures it takes. I bought a new one recently as well - It's on backorder so I'm stalking UPS everyday.

Have fun with the new camera and scrapping your NY trip

Sounds like a great trip, M-C ! Except the delay part. I must admit

Thanks for the info on the camera. Also I feel your pain about airport delays.... I spent 3 days rained in at the Houston Airport sleeping on the floor. Yuck! The irony of the situation... it was Hurrican Allison that swamped us and that is my daughter's name. It was a trip for just my husband and I and we left the kids with G&G. Boy, she sure got us back for leaving her behind. hahaha

Awesome M-C!

I really should have researched before I got the camera I have- I could really use that optical zoom and speed. Congrats on the great buy! NYC is so much fun, I'm glad you had a good time!

Sounds like you had a good trip even if it could've been longer. Short trips help break up everyday life! Congrats on the camera! Chris saw me looking at on the site and he said, "What is that?" I refrained from being smart alecky and told him why I was looking at it. I think he was thinking I'm looking for another camera. I'm always doing that!! Who doesn't? But I saw a commercial on TV while he was watching a football game for a new NIKON digital SLR and I must say I think it's a must have for me. I love Nikon cameras but that's a long way off!

Sounds like a great whrill-wind NYC trip MC! (Even if you didn't get to any scrapbook stores. LOL) I'm drooling over your new digital camera though! We've got this little Concord digital camera. (It was clearance at WM and DH just HAD to have it. LOL) I don't use it much because it's slow and you just can't take candids with it. I do like the sound of yours though! Glad to have you back!!!!

Hubby never leaves me behind if we can help it. Of course we will have to pay for me, but it would still be really nice, don't you think?

I always take a window seat, because I am slightly clustophobic. When I booked our flights for this last trip, the only remaining seats that were together were in the last row. I never realized that the window in the last seat of the DC-9 is completely closed off and the one right in front of it isn't a whole lot better. So I felt really closed in. I never realized until then that it really does freak me out not to be able to watch the take off and landing. I made Rick give me a play by play of the landing, LOL.

However, once I reminded myself that the pilot had as much reason to want to see us all land safely as I did, at least I was able to calm down about the actual safety of the repairs!

Flying is really safe when you think about it!

Now that is really a long time! 3 days? How is that even possible? I've got to tell you, the first time I ever let my DS alone for a weekend, we came home to find out that there had been a heavy rain, the sewers had backed up and there was 2.5 feet of sewer water in our finished basement! Yuck!

We sure did Tabitha! It was nice, but NYC is loud. And being on the top of an open double decker, well it was definitely a sensory experience.

I'm so glad that you had a good time :) Oh my goodness.. Maybe one day I'll see NY. I think Eric has been there before. Business trips. A double decker? Woah!! I've seen those on tv.

My mom has a layover in NY when she comes but she doesn't have to get off the plane though.

I can just imagine Chris' reaction. Must mirror Rick's when I told him what I had bought in my shopping spree! I just had to show him everything it could do!

But of course you need the camera. How can you expect to chronicle your families history from this day forward without a GOOD camera. And of course a GOOD camera is one with as many bells and whistles as you can afford and don't have on your current camera!

It was odd. The Houston airport is sort of like an island if there is too much rain. No one could get in, no one could get out; hence, the lack of hotel. My husband and I bought a bunch of bottle water and fruit right off the bat. Next morning the airport was already running out of food in many restaurants. The first night they were passing out blankets, but not enough for everyone. Then someone handed me what looked like a dinner mint... oh that's my pillow.... geeze thanks. Didn't know whether to sleep on it or suck on it... it was so small. haha So, we only got 4 days in New Orleans, but we still had a good time.

That mint comment was a real gufaw! You do have a way with descriptions, Lynne! Was that Hobby or Bush?
