HI All

I've survived three weeks at the academy. It is so fun yet hard. I have to learn criminal justice and some basic law but I'm loving every minute of it.

Spelling has become an issue. I've never realized how much I've relied on spell-check, LOL.

My CO (commanding officer) told me that if I keep up my grades I will be valdictorian of the class on April 17th (graduation) and will be able to pick from any of the locations of my choosing within the city. Yippee. I want, I told her, Film and Television Permit Unit. She said it is in 1 Police Plaza. Yahoo, I could commute with Larry and get to see all the stars that film in NYC.

So my grades thus far are:

Spelling 80% Criminal Justice 100% Typing: 85.9 words per minute 0 errors English: 100%

Yahoo!!

Off to celebrate with Sarah (who by the way is now reading picture books to everyone quite accurately -- i.e., picture of apple, she says Apple (or in her case Ap Pull) LOL.

XOXOX Kate

That's great Kate and how exciting! Keep up the good work. Valedictorian will make a great LO.

wtg Kate your grades are awesome keep it up I am totally confused at the surviving three weeks at acadamy and then graduating in April ---- how does this program work? And after graduation what do you become? Were you already in the job beforehand? lolol no its not blond or bridging the age gap its bridging the country gap :o)

Shaz downunder ( excuse for the lack of knowledge lol )

Hi.

When you are hired by NYC, in my case PROVISIONAL, I have to take a class to make sure I understand the workings of the military aspect of the NYPD. On April 28th I take a CIVIL SERVANT EXAM to make me PERMANENT within the city.

The training is EIGHT WEEKS of high level classes which I earn a paycheck for.

When I graduate I will become a PROVISIONAL POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE AIDE after I take and ultimately pass the civil servant exam I will become a POLICE ADMINISTRATIVE AIDE.

A police administrative aide is an administrative assistant. When you give a report in a precinct within a NYPD precint 90% of the time you are talking to a PAA.

Hope it helps. Kate

Way to go Kate!!! I sure hope that you get your dream job! You are doing awesome and I for one am so proud to have you as a friend. I know what a long road it has been for you to get to where you are getting and I'm sending you a huge cyber hug!!!

That's great news Kate! I'm so happy for you. You deserve a job you'll enjoy! Hopefully you'll get the station you want so you and DH can commute.
