OT: That's what I get for working extra!!

I owed someone a 24 hour shift. I've owed him for 6 years and when he asked me to split it into 2 12hour shifts I was happy to do it, oh and work for a couple of other guys he owed time to. I was still happy to do it and get that obligation over with! I have worked since Saturday morning!! Or so it seems! I worked my regular shift Saturday, 12 hours Sunday and then 12 hours yesterday. In those 48 hours I have had to work 6, yes you read that right 6 working structure fires! When we hear the dispatcher say, "this was called in from across the street (next door, down the street)" we know we are in for allot of work. I am getting ready to go to my regular shift this morning. I had a bit of time to check the news group Saturday but not anyother time.....I will try to catch up this week.

My cell phone and worse yet my watch are causalities of two fires. We had part of a ceiling come down on us and as I was getting out my leg got hit with debris and KOed my cell phone. Another fire nearly flashed over. Not a good thing! I recognized the signs and told my backup we were outa there, it flashed right after we got out. I noticed back at the station that my watch was barbaqued! good thing it was a $10 job from Wal-Mart! (that was too close of a call!)

I have been pooped for days and it will take me several more days to get recovered! LOL here's hoping for a quiet shift!

Deb, M-C I will call you guys tomorrow!

Oh my Kenda you've had a harrowing few days. Take care of yourself and leave your new cellphone and watch in the truck from now on. hahaha They are obviously not as strong as you!

EEEK! That's too close of a call, Kenda. But I'm glad the cell phone & watch were the only casulties. Get some rest!

Oh..I'll probably have DD home tomorrow. Found out yesterday she has strep.

Kenda,

At least you made it out alive. Watches and Cell Phones are replacable. You, on the other hand, are not.

Be safe, wear your gear and remember cat naps are good between fires.

I usually put my cell phone in my work boots as I'm putting on my bunker pants but guess I was so tired I forgot. I also take off my watch after I buckle in as we are in route to the fire but again I think being tired I forgot. That's okay, they are replaceable! Though I do have DH old cell phone, which is okay since it's just like my now dead one I really liked it.

I agree Deb, too close of a call!, both times! I did finally get some rest but am now getting little sleep do to sinus and allergies (clogged sinus + sleep apnea = a very tired Kenda (who can't use her CPAP due to the clogged sinus!).

I hope DD is doing better, I hate it when our babies get sick! I think sometimes it's as hard on the parents as it is the kids....we don't like to see our babies ill and not be able to fix it. Give her a hug for me.

Thank you Kate. I always make sure I have my gear, usually I'm the one telling someone they aren't going in with me until they put on ____ . I refuse to go in with someone who doesn't wear all their gear and wear it correctly. It is selfishness on my part. If I go down and need to be pulled out I want to make sure that they can get me out and aren't hampered by a lack of protection. Then of course I want to make sure I can do the same for someone else. I took lots of cat naps yesterday.....I sure needed them too!

I'm just glad you're OK. Those things can be replaced. Your biggest asset is your brain that keeps you making the right decisions and keeps you safe. You go girl!

Oh my gosh Kenda, what a shift. I'm so glad that you are that good at your job that you do know how to keep safe. I'm sorry you lost your cell and watch, but so glad that you didn't get injured. Hope you get some rest in before your shift on Friday! Hugs,

Wow I bet you were worn out. Sorry to hear about your electronic casualties, but so glad you are OK. You firefighters are my heroes with soldier and police.
