What technique are you working on???

We haven't done this in a small while so I thought I would ask a question every few days and we can all get to know each other better. I have to admit I have an ulterior motive--to find out what my Secret Santa recipient is involved in at the moment. So all of you SS participants may want to include yourselves in this--NON too! As a group, we always want to know what every one is up to and not everyone updates their web accounts--I am guilty on that too!

What technique are you working on and how is it coming along? Anything you are stumped on? Anything you want to try?

Here is my answer--I am working on stamping--it is coming about okay but it takes just as effort as scrapbooking to me. I want to try sewing on my layouts but my sewing machine is FUBAR and I also cannot figure out how to sew without tearing the paper.

HI.

I'm working on altering items. I'm dying to try my hand at altering a book but don't have all the ingredients to be successful.

Mica is another item but waaay too expensive for my scrapping budget.

I'm making about 75 christmas cards and trying to play catch up on my box of pictures.

I'm desperately trying to organize my ribbon and fibers in a way that doesn't make me nuts. Without taking up too much space.

Jacqui,

Try to loosen the tension on the sewing machine and back the paper with maybe some unneeded fabric to later cut out for stability.

Let me see.....I am working on 2 calendars, 2006, for my mom and grandma for Christmas gifts. I am using a 6x6 album, bought a package of 6x6 paper, &

6x6 cardstock. That way it all coordinated. I started way early in the year, got to April and got tired of working on it. I got it out yesterday and figured out that I was obsessing about every little detail on each page, that was why I got tired of working on it. Each month is a double layout, one side has a calendar, the other I have sewed a 2 1/2" pocket on the bottom so appointment cards or other important items can be placed in it. I will also be putting a tag in each pocket with a list of birthdays and anniversaries of the family. There will also be a place to put addresses, receipts, ect. So I got right to work on it, this time not obsessing. I'll post pictures when I'm done.

I have gathered needed items (just needed clipboard) to do several altered clipboards. Think they too will be Christmas gifts. I started an altered book, I work on it when I want to try a new technique, gives me a chance to experiment. I have also gathered items to make a small book, to also try new techniques in. Will begin working on that after the first of the year.

So I guess I am doing altered techniques for gifts.

As for your sewing on pages Jacqui I don't know that I can help you except to say, use a longer stitch length. The longer the stitch the less likely you are to tear the paper.

I'm not really working on a technique per say. I made a 8x8 brag book for my mom, a friendship 6x6 quote book for a friend that's moving and an inspirational quote book for another friend. I do want to try one of those altered clipboards though! Barb:o)

I am working on making a NY Yankee frame for my little sister. Just added the last embellishment to my dad's scrapbook album. I am working on Christmas cards and making angel magnets (paper piecings) for the family for christmas.

Hi Jacqueline,

I've been sewing the last couple months on paper and it has been working out remarkably well, so thought I chime in with some suggestions. I'm thinking bigger stitches and make sure you have a sharp needle. Miy needle right now is an 11 and fairly new. Small stitches and a dull needle would probably chew right through the paper.

I am painting handblown eggs. I have finished 3 and that is all the time I have had so far. I made all 3 into ornaments already also!

They are painted with model car paint. That way it is already glossy. When I finish I spray with glossy finish to make it even shiny-er.

I'm working on my Christmas cards. I am dry embossing and trying to figure out the best way to add color to the embossing. So far I have tried chalk and pens. I'm going to try water color pencils next and then see which technique I like best.

Wow April. I love decorating eggs. I like to use the pyanky method. I have an egg tree up in my house at all time. You'll have to share pictures of them I'd love to see them.

I will have to look into that. Thanks! My mom was going to look at my machine when she was here in February but we were obviously too busy for that. I love your calendar idea. Jacqui

That sounds really neat April! Pictures? I wish I could do that but I have to admit that I am challenged at the artistic level! lol You are wonderfully talented (as demonstrated by Dave's Army book and my Firefighter book) I'll bet they are gorgeous!

Let us know what technique you like best. I've tried dry embossing and I didn't like due to lack of color on the embossed areas.....

I'm not working on any particular technique though I'd love to learn chalking. I am currently trying to get the scrap-baby-book I made for my son redone into a non magnetic album. That's my main project though I'm always doing pages on other topics such as my trip to China 2 years ago and my European trip 12 years ago.

Cathy, try using a sponge and a stamp pad to add color to embossing. It's a different and neat look.

Try this....and it looks really good on a white (or other light colored cardstock). Stamp a background image on your cardstock after you dry emboss. An all-over background looks great. Just make sure you stamp on the back side of your embossed image.
