Hi -- I am closing in on my NYCO - all the knitting is done but when I started assembling it last night I found I couldn't see well enough to do it in artificial light (the yarn is basically navy blue) and had to put that part off. I am one sleeve short of finishing a black cotton sweater for DH (good thing daylight is long this time of year with these dark projects). I finished a pair of gloves for DD#2 using my mother's mitten and glove pattern booklet (rather loose pages that once were my mother's pattern booklet). As ordered they are lilac with the letter M on the back (for Mandella - or Mande as she is usually called). I have one sock done for my SIL and about 12cm of the back of a sweater in Silkroad Aran for DD. I started and gave up on a silk/mohair laceweight scarf - two pattern repeats and too much frustration to continue.

I've just finished some baby cardigans for a friend and some for my grandson. I'm currently doing the 'Hudson' sweater from the Classic Cafe pattern book, and I really am enjoying knitting it. It's a not-too-difficult aran in double knit weight, and the pattern is interesting enough to keep me working on it. There were a couple of minor mistakes in the pattern, but now I have figured those out, it is coming along quite nicely. Oh and I'm still working on the Einstein Coat for me, but all that garter stitch is so uninteresting to work, that I keep putting it away!

1. A fair isle sweater for Blue (when it's not too hot to work on). Maybe I can stop him from pointing out that I've knit more things for the dog than I have for him. :-)
2. An afghan for the living room that's my no-brain, no-light, travel project. It's done it pieces, so travels really easily.

Good for you, Shelagh! I am fringing Vanessa's poncho, and have started one for Kandace. I am supposed to have started a Moebius scarf for a knit-along, but haven't had the time yet.

Icelandic shawl from hell. Operator error keeps introducing errors, which must be fixed lest the lace patterns not work properly. I'm tinking as much as I'm knitting.

Elizabeth's Fishtrap aran, modified for me. I've started the second sleeve, will use Elizabeth's seamless saddle shoulder method to finish it.

I've started carding some cotton lint into punis for spinning on my charkha. I have way too much wool, but I'm knitting with wool in 100F temps - I don't want a lapful of the stuff *all* the time!

I can't stand tinking lace! I'd just as soon rip it out or toss it!

Thank you, I was pleased with the end result myself. July 17th, and I can't be there. They had originally planned it for August, but their minister is going to be on vacation, and doesn't want anyone else to do it. I already had my plans made, and so did they, so nothing could be changed. Sigh! She is also wearing the christening dress I knitted for her brother. I got that pattern from yarnforward before it was removed from their site.

The matinée set is not a bobble pattern, but a 4-row repeat which creates a slanting effect. Quite pretty, actually.

LOL I will! And, actually, Vaness'a poncho, which I added yesterday, is crocheted around the neck and bottom.

The stitch for the slant is public domain, so I will add it here. However, the matinée set is from - you *are* sitting down, I hope - a pattern book I bought at Woolworth's! This was back in the days when Woolworth's had its own knitting section, and they produced their own pattern books. I have been knitting this little set for over 30 years, and it still gets rave reviews. THe stitch pattern is as follows: YOu need the total number of stitches to be divisible by 4, with one extra stitch. Abbreviations: K - knit P - purl G3 - Group. Purl three together, leaving the stitches on the needle, yarn around needle, then purl the three stitches together again and slip them off the needle. This gives the slant and you maintain your stitch count.

Row 1: (right side): K Row 2: P1, *G3, P1. Repeat form * to end of row Row 3: K Row 4: P3, *G3, P1. Repeat from * to last 2 sts, P2

And that's it!

Ok, I'm listening to Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach, while I finish up my Fair entries. (20 items in 6 catagories, grin) Noreen who is also 'deciding' what to do with my 2nd wheel... if I should keep IT (sentimental value), or trade it for what I really want...

This Icelandic lace wool doesn't "rip" - its very similar to hairy mohair, only stickier and less hairy. Most of my errors at this point I can fix as I go by faking in a YO or dropping a couple of stitches for a couple of rows and doing a 2tog that I missed. I'm on the home stretch now, just a few rows of stockinette, then an Icelandic bindoff on 400-odd stitches and crochet picot trim all the way around. I don't know what I'm looking forward to less - binding off, or the crocheting. Oh, my aching wrists.

We had a MAJOR thunderstorm today, but it didn't do a lot to lower the temperature or take away the humidity. However, it DID leak in our foyer and the kitchen again. *sigh* Something else to spend money on that we can't afford, but need to do. Of course Matthew wasn't home when this all happened, so there I was hobbling around with my cane (the humidity has been irritating my Fibromyalgia along with the arthritis in my back this past week or so... the massage pad is getting a good workout) putting buckets and pots down to try to catch the water. For about the first two hours it was coming down so hard that one of the buckets in the foyer (where the worst leak is) was filling up every 10 minutes and I had to lug it through the house to the bathroom to dump it. My back is FRIED now, even though I laid down for a couple of hours after the rain finally stopped.
