OT: update on Mom

A big thank you to all sent good thoughts and prayers for my mom's knee replacement surgery. Sad to say that it was cancelled at the last minute. Her surgeon is a stickler for infections which is a good thing! She has in ingrown hair below her knee on the inside and the Dr. is afraid of a staff infection getting into her bones and them having to remove the replacement. So she's been rescheduled for the 19th of December. She should be home for Christmas. Mom was very dissappointed, as well as understanding. She's just in so much pain, I hate to see her this way. My Dad had to go back to work so he doesn't use all of his leave time waiting. I know he worries about her while he's on the road. So I have been/will be going over everyday I'm not at work and checking on her taking her something to eat as I know she doesn't cook when my Dad is on the road. He's always home on the weekends to that will help out.

Keep your fingers crossed that the next try will be a go. Thanks again to all.

Sorry for the delay, Kenda, but glad her surgeon is looking out for her health. Hope her knee replacement surgery goes as well as my dad's did. Just tell her to take a lesson from him: "more is not necessarily better". His POV was that if the doctor said to do 10 reps of an exercise, wasn't 20 twice as good? Um, no. He set his recovery back by overdoing it. So his advice to your mom would be to follow her doctor's advice to the letter.

Oh your poor Mom! But the doctor's right. It's not worth the risk of infection. I'm glad your doctor is a stickler for that, though. Tell your Mom she's in my thoughts and prayers. Once she's back on her feet, she'll have to come stamp with us sometime! Even if it's one day during the week when your Dad's out of town, your off work, and all the kiddos are in school. :-) We'll enable her to stamp eventually. LOL Look forward to seeing you tomorrow! It definately sounds like you could use some "Kenda time"!

Wow, that must be a let down but the risk of infection with a knee replacement is so high that every time you go to the dentist after having one they have to give you an antibiotic, so I'm sure waiting made a lot of sense! Please give her my best and let her know that she is in my thoughts and prayers. I'm due for mine in 3007 so I'll be sitting here hoping that she does really, really well!

Big hugs to you too as I'm sure this is rough on you as well!

*tosses MC a 2 and takes her 3* I think you meant 2007, not 3007. Unless you found a fountain of youth or some magic pill. :-)

hmmm would you believe I'm planning on being cryogenetically preserved until they have the ability to grow back a good knee???? Guess not, takes the 2 and puts in squarely in front of the 007. Thanks Deb!

Kenda, obviously for the way the yucky weather was, it was the Lord's way of postponing it, for something so seemingly little or petty!! Then on the other hand, sounds like she has one of those truly far and few in between doc's that looks at ALL aspects, not just the $$'s!

((HUGS!)) and Prayers always!

I too am glad her surgeon is such a stickler. Mom is scared to death that she's going to do some damage so she is going by the "laws" the dr. has given her.

Mom was very disappointed but knows it's the right thing to do. I'm working on getting her to stamp camp. I'll eventually get her worn down! LOL

The risk of infection and bone infection is extremely high. I didn't realize just how high it was until she went for this. We are just praying the next try goes through and then she can have the other one done. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

I must say, in the year 3007 I'll bet they'll be able to just point a device at the knee and it will regrow so it's like new! LOL

Thank you Linda. From the way the surgeon was talking it's really nothing to mess with. If he had done it and she developed an infection they knee replacement would have to be taken out, they would place antibacterial cement in (that sounds just awful!). Then she'd have to have 6-8 weeks of IV therapy. Then in 9 weeks to 6 months they could try again. I told her it wasn't worth it. One of the wives developed a bone infection after ther KR and was without a knee for 7 months!!! I just can't imagine. Diffenately worth the wait.

Kenda, I hope the infection clears, so your Mom can have the op and get rid of the pain. It's not easy to see a loved one struggling like that. Keeping her in my prayers untill after her op :))
