OT: We're off to Ft. Leonardwood

Well DS#1 graduates from Army Basic Training and AIT on Thursday. He called a little while ago to tell us the changes in the program and that....................................... He has been accepted into the

82nd Airborne training!!!! I'm so proud of him!!! He said that out of the 100 that applied only 15 got it. He worked hard to get it. We will be leaving tomorrow evening, dropping DS#2 at Grandma's (he has an ASVAP test to take on Thursday, it's only given once a year & only to Jr.'s) then we're headed up. Wednesday is family day; slideshows, awards ceremony then we get to visit with him for 8 hours. Thursday he Graduates and then we come home without him........He has to stay there, he is on the waiting list for training, when a slot comes open he will go to GA to train. He could leave on the 26th of this month or the begining of January. But the good news is that he will be home for Christmas!!!! I'm so happy.

Melissa doesn't know yet, she's at work. I know that's she's going to be upset but at least she gets to see him.

Congrats to your son on finishing basic training and making it to the

82nd airborne!! I'm sure you are very proud!! He really wants to jump out of airplanes??! ( I had a boyfriend years ago in the 82nd, and he was part of the unit that invaded Grenada.) I hope he has much success in his training!

Kenda, I am so happy for your son. Tell him Congrats on finishing. The hard part is over now, right? I'm sure your visit will be a lot of fun as well. As for jumping out of planes, I can't blame him. I have jumped out of one myself :)

Crystal, no the hard part is getting thorough jump school. They had to do a PT test today, they were culling over 50 people. He made it though he screwed up so he is on the chopping block. We're holding our breath for the next 3 weeks!

Thanks Kate!! If he makes it through Airborne school, according to his new set of Orders, he will be assigned to the 503rd Airborne @ Ft. Bragg, NC. (I'll be spending time in NC!!!) His orders state he is to report for duty on December 19th. I'm so happy for him!!!

Oh my!!!! DS looks so good!!!! He looks wonderful!!! I took some really good pictures of him, only got a few though. I'll post them probably tomorrow. (My pain meds are starting to kick in)

On Family Day when we were allowed into the theater before the awards and slide show I milled around looking at the soldiers that were sitting, very still. It took me nearly 10 minutes to find Nick. There were 187 graduates, most with shaved heads!!! When they all look alike it's so hard to find yours! LOL Some woman & her husband walked past me and said, "isn't terrible when a grandma can't pick out her own grandson?" I said, "no, it's terrible when a Mom can't pick out her own son!" LOL I finally found him though, he looked good, tired but good.

We were able to spend 9 hours with him on Wednesday. On Thursday, after Graduation we saw him for all of 5 minutes. He had his orders, he was getting on a bus for a 15 hour bus ride to Ft. Benning, GA. DH and I said our goodbyes so DS & GF could say goodbye privately. (Or as privately as one can in a crowd of nearly 800). After DS helped GF in car and walked away I looked at DH and said, "he's no longer my baby, he's a man". It makes me teary but he truely is a man, he walks proudly, & with a since of purpose.

One son down and one to go! LOL and a foster daughter! LOL Anyway I'll post pictures tomorrow
