Re: OT **Virus Alert! W32.Swen.A@mm - NOT a MS Patch**

I've been getting a whole bunch of emails saying they are from microsoft, but I've been deleting them when they come in. Didn't think I would be getting email from them.

Hope no one gets hit!

Sharon

BTW, I also received one of the other most recent ones just a few days ago. > I took all the steps, no virus found, but haven't had any problems since > then. I was getting them as well. My husband set me up in this news group with a mail service called "sneakemail". Because of that, we can tell where the sender has gotten our address from. All the messages yesterday came from someone who got our address from this newsgroup. So, everyone needs to be very careful.

People make fun of AOL but I have to give a lot of credit to AOL's recent spam traps. I haven't gotten a single one of those virus emails and rarely get any spam. Sometimes AOL is worth every penny it costs. LOL

Patty , I just finished taking off (unopened) about 15 of the same . This is puzzling to me,since I have WEB TV and no computer.

My mailbox was nearly full w/ MS messages also. Almost two dozen. Each one took up 6-7% of my storage. I opened one to see what it was. When I saw an attachment I knew it was some kind of new virus. One good thing about webtv is that I'm immune to viruses. Can't get 'em, can't pass 'em on. I'm getting sick of them filling up my mailbox though.

Is it possible that someone is using the fact that this worm is out there as a hoax to annoy people? Since all on this newsgroup are receiving the message, including web TV users, it causes me to suspect. I have a completely updated Norton antivirus and it found nothing but I have been getting many messages in my mailbox. I was dumb enough to open one because it looked familiar but quickly deleted it and all others.

It may be a combination - but I've got about 20 quarantined messages - so about 1/2 come in with some sort of virus.

My virus checker didn't find anything, but I'm getting tired of these emails! I've probably had at least 60 in the last 24 hours!

I came home to not having my cox.net up... I'm still without cable access but can get outlook express to get my mail from cox.

I found that idiots have sent from weird addresses (some looking like they were microsoft or bulletins addresses of some sort) "updates" "patches" etc for MS. Is there a filter option on OE? I'm still learning it and have set up rules for deleting the mail with certain words in the body, but it's not necessarily working. UGH! I'm having mail NOT get to mailbox thanks to AOLs "brilliance." I belong to several yahoogroups and half the mail doesn't hit my mailbox. I miss out on stuff going on and the only thing I can trace it to is AOL ATTEMPTS to stop spam, which isn't spam. I get 10-25 "viagra" "Prescription" "mortgage" emails on AOL, but can't get the legitimate Email... After 8 years with the service, we're weaning off it. Customers do NOT matter at AOL. :( Susan in HRVA AF Wife to David Mom to CG, my angel Gareth, and Matthew
