This idea was in the March 2005 issue of Creating Keepsakes. Make your owen Ribion Box. I haven't tried it yet but I hope to get around to making the box this coming week.
Supplies: Photo box with lid (no label holder at end of box works best), two 12" wooden dowels 3/16" diameter, four 20mm unfinished wooden beads, 1"4 silver eyelets with setter tool, white acrylic paint. *oversized eyelets in kits taht sell at craft and fabric stores aprox. $2.50 includes the setter tool. If have wider ribbon use 1/2" or 1" eyelets
Tools: 6" ruler or protractor, ribbon on 4 1/8" round cards, 3 1/4" round cards, white pencil for markings, large hole punch or craft knife, foam paintbrush
Steps: 1. Paint wooden dowels and beads with white paint, set aside to dry. 2. Mark where dowels will enter the ends of the box. Large spools will go on one dowel and small spools on other. Markings for dowels -- place large spool of ribbon on the indside of photo box at front right. Use the white pencil to mark in the center of the spools opening. Place the spool of ribbon at the back right of the box. Use white pencil to make a mark in the center of the spools opening. Markings for dowel with small spools -- place small spool of ribbon on the inside of photo box at front left. Use white pencil to make a mark in the center of the spools opening. Place the spool of ribbon at the back left of the box. Use white pencil to make a mark in center of the spools opening. Note: the markings for the small spoools are lower then the markings for the large spools. Raise teh marking about 1/2" so the markings are at the same level. The dowels will now extend from the box at the same height. 3. Use ruler or protactor to mark the placement of the eyelets along the indsides of the box. Note: The designer placed seven eyelets on each side of the box. You can include more eyelets if you have more spools of ribbon. 4. Follow markings from steps 2 and 3 to make holes in ends of the box and on the sides. Use either a very large hole punch or craft knife to make the holes. 5. Use the setter tool to set eyelets in the ends of the box and along the sides. 6. Place your ribbon in the box and insert the dowels. Add a wooden bead to each dowel end to keep it from slipping.
