I'm pretty sure I remembered to post my new craft desk last month... (it's an l-shaped desk with my computer equipment on one side and a lovely big crafting desk on the other... it's made my crafting space a lot more functional (and a lot nicer to use), and freed up some more space elsewhere in the room. I've emptied the old desk but we haven't done anything about getting rid of it yet. It's going to go out to the skip (but I think we have to break it apart with a sledgehammer to get it out of the apartment, because we don't know anyone burly enough to move it!) I had a flash of inspiration the other day and thought that if the desk goes there'd be enough room for my most-coveted (but never-owned) possession - an upright piano! But that's not really practical. I can just see them trying to get a piano up the stairs and into the apartment :P What's most likely to go in that spot is a sofabed, or else a second desk for John if he decides that he's willing to move his computer into this room too. I'd love to get his computer equipment OUT of the bedroom and make it a haven for sleeping instead of an office...
Anyway, back to topic. Yesterday John took me to Target and I bought a pair of desk-top shelf unit things... when we brought them home and I opened the box I discovered that they weren't new. Somebody else had already opened the box and started to put it together, and then they'd realised that two of the pegs were in the wrong place on the board and taken it back to the store... but they hadn't returned the instructions! I was very cross but I really wanted the shelves, and it looked like we'd be able to work around the misplaced pegs. A few minutes of fiddling around showed me how to assemble the things (not really hard - all the bits fit together like a jigsaw and then you screw four screws in to fasten it all in place. and when we came to the mis-pegged piece John pulled them out with a pair of pliers so it would go together neatly. It's not perfect - aside from the misplaced pegs, one of the sides split when I screwed the screw into it.... and I was tempted to take the whole thing back to the store and say it was broken and just buy a bookshelf instead... but I decided to keep it, and now it's in place I think I like it. It gave me the room to tweak my storage a little and bring some of the things that I haven't been using out into the light of day, especially my button collection and all my stamp pads. The stamp pads were in a drawer but I've hardly ever used them since I put them in there. Maybe if they're out at eyelevel I'll think about them more! The last thing I did was to sit down and write little labels for all the boxes to remind me what's in them.
