I have one of the big ones (9" wide) and haven't used it yet. It seems that everything I might want to use it for is so small I would waste a lot of the cartridge material. I am thinking about getting one of the small sticker ones to handle the small items without so much waste.
Basically you feed in the material you want to put adhesive on and move the material through the machine. There is a top clear layer that you peel off and then you lift the material off the white adhesive paper and stick it to you page. They have permanent and repositionable cartridges, I prefer the repositional ones because I had to have everything exactly straight or I go nuts. Besides the laminate they sell magnetic cartridges as well.
Hi scout lady, okaaaaaaaaay, I get the 'peel off ...adhesive paper..." idea. but Magnetic cartridges! A person can magnetize something? How many different cartridges are there for different purposes? This is getting very interesting. Diana
It depends which machine you buy. I haven't used the one that makes magnets or laminates, but I imagine the concept is the same as the sticker ones. Wheel moves rollers, paper goes through, rollers apply backing (sticky, magnetic, laminate, whatever) paper comes out with backing on it.
In the sticker cartridge, looks like there's a roll of sticky stuff and a roll of the shiny smooth paper that you peel stickers off of, and the rollers sandwich the sticky stuff in between your paper and the shiny paper as you turn the wheel that feeds your paper through, which makes your paper into a sticker.
It's really not difficult or complicated > Hi scout lady,
Thanks, Luna This really does sound like a nifty tool. Perfect for vellum too. I'm going to get to Michael's - the only useful store where I live - with a discount coupon and see what's what. I can't say I've done much scrapbooking yet, but have been collecting all the goodies that I think I'll need. I just don't want to start to get going and find I don't have the most important thing I'll need. The right glue or something like that, and then it'll be pouring with rain and I won't want to go out for it Thanks again Diana
You're welcome. I don't worry too much about not having the exact right thing, because more often than not there are 10 different ways to accomplish one goal, and it's usually just a matter of preference. Plus, it can lead to the feeling of "I should save this because I might need it one day" which leads to clutter, which leads to "I'd really like to make something right now but my work station is too cluttered."
On those rare occasions when I am really stuck and I absolutely need something but can't go out and get it, I take it as a sign that it's time to do some housework anyway.
New tools and supplies can be fun, but please don't ever feel you have to have the latest gadgets in order to be a good scrapbooker. Remember, people were doing it way before there were scrapbook sections in stores and scrapbooking magazines and all that.
