Weather and More...

Checking in to let everybody know what's going on with me. To those of y'all who don't know, I live in Nebraska. School was cancelled Monday because of ice. Tuesday it was on so I took our 2 youngest sons to school (our oldest is in high school and rides with a friend). I dropped off our middle son first (middle school) then our youngest (elementary school) then headed to pick up a Latte before a 9am Dr appt (sinus infection). On the way to the coffee shop I was in an accident. I'm 39 and had NEVER been in any accident. I completely lost it. I was screaming and called 911 saying, "I've just been in an accident and I think I'm going to throw up." I was absolutely terrified. Since I was turned all the way around facing the wrong way, I could see the traffic coming toward me. Everybody was switching lanes (2 lanes going in each direction so they were moving out of the way). Then I notice this big Dodge truck switching lanes. It was DH!!! He had a Dr appt at 8am and was on his way to work. I got out and waved him down. He got out and hugged me and I started crying hysterically. What a sight I must have been. The accident was caused by the ice. I slid sideways and the guy behind me slid into me spinning me around. Nobody was seriously hurt (no cuts or broken bones), but my back has been VERY stiff. I actually made my Dr. appt on time (surprise!) then went and got my boys. The Air Force base was closing, but they weren't cancelling school?!?!?! The weather was only getting worse and I knew I didn't want to get out later.

Wednesday and Thursday school was cancelled because of snow. The boys weren't too disappointed to find they had to go on Friday. I didn't realize how scared I was until I started driving. I managed to get the boys to school then called a friend to see if she would take me to my Dr appt (follow-up for accident) because she has a 4-wheel drive and I've got a mini-van. DH has been trying to talk me into getting that new Jeep with a Hemi. I'm seriously thinking about it now. I was so scared while driving the boys to school. I could feel my heart pounding very hard. I can't avoid driving all winter!

Different subject...

I'm going to a crop at 2pm today. I haven't got my stuff packed yet, but think I will work on my Christmas photos. This will be my first time for this year. WooHoo!!!

Cecelia, having been there, I know how terrified you must have been and especially since you were turned around and could see the traffic comming yowrds you! I have one suggestion about your back, again based on experience. Get thyself to a Chiropractor! You will avoid many weeks, months and especially months of back problems.

The best explanation I can give for what happens after a serious muscle trauma is this, not exactly pretty but easy to understand. Do you know how sometimes there is gristle in meat? Well that is what happens after a muscle is damaged and not worked on right away. When you go to the chiro they not only make sure that everything stays realigned while the muscles heal (the muscles are pulling things in varios directions) but they also apply ultrasound and tens to heal the muscles, increase the blood flow and ensure that the muscles stay supple.

Glad you came out of there in one piece! Careful for neck injuries that may show up later. It may cause inflamation in the long run causing a lot of headaches. My DS had a fairly light accident a year ago and thought nothing got hurt. About two months ago she started having headaches for days on end. The doctors found out that the slight whip lash she had then, was causing the inflamation now and the subsequent headaches.

Wow Cecelia I can envision your ordeal!! Then to see DH - I know you thought there really was/is a Saviour!

You got MOST of what we just got a brush of here in the city where i am. We only had about 1/4" ice with sleet on top of it but north and west of here and ESPECIALLY into KS they got it! Some parts of my state (OK) still without power and have icy roads. They had up to 2" ice they say and have been showing on the news. KS got it worse though.

The weather is REALLY REALLY BAD everywhere from the looks and sounds of it. West coast is really catching it and to think that Seattle nad Portland are getting SNOW for two years in a row, I know they are shocked!!! And some parts of the Sierras are getting 2 to 8 FEET of snow just this weekend - Holy Cows!

We are to be 65 here tomorrow then by Wed, back to nasty stuff again and even colder than this week was. Only in OK, 60 today, zero tomorrow then back to 60!!!

nada for 05

We got it down here in KC too. All ice w/ a layer of sleet that looks like it's snow but isn't. The last two days the weatherfolks have told us it was going to thaw. Well, I'm still waiting and looking at my ice covered everything. We only lost power for about 5 hours way early (3 am) Thursday.

So sorry to hear about your wreck, but very glad that no one was hurt. I know what you mean about being afraid to drive. Ever since a very heavy snow we had here a few yrs ago (I was dumb and went to work anyway) I get sick to my stomach when the winter weather's bad and I get to a certain part of the interstate. I've not had any wrecks (knock on wood), but they just never seem to get that one spot cleaned off good and the semis, OMG, stay away from me.

I don't know how y'all drive in that stuff. I lived in Atlanta for a couple of years and we had a pretty good snow one time while I was at work. I had to drive home in it and was scared to death! Snow is rare here in Baton Rouge. I think it's pretty, but I would not want to have to deal with what y'all are dealing with.

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad no one was seriously injured Cecelia. Be sure to get you back checked though. Your DH must have been a little shocked too. You got to love the military, have school on and close the base.

Have a good time at the crop.

Not just there Dave, AR at least this winter is treating me to the same thing. T-Shirt one day, sweater, scarf and coat 3 days later! That is mighty weird!

Glad to hear you're ok Cecelia! How's the back and neck feeling now? It's good to hear you got to do some scrapping. Scrapping always takes care of the worries, doesn't it? :-) Take care of yourself and hope you're feeling TONS better!

Wow! Thanks to all for your well wishes. Yes, I went to a Chiropractor that same day (and 2 more times last week). My back was "tight" (can't think of a better description), but now I am fine. I really feel like it would have been worse had I not gone immediately.

I am originally from the south and HATE driving in this crap. DH took my van and left me his truck for a few days so I would be able to get around better but I literally felt sick the first time I drove afterward. The schools were closed for 2 days after so I didn't even try to drive then when I did on Friday I was so scared. I'm getting back to normal (or my version of normal! LOL) now, but am still very nervous about the weather. We have lived here for 11 years and I've never been like this about driving.

When I lived in Atlanta I got stuck at work when it started snowing. I was a Marine at the time. Everybody was sent home except for "essential personel". I lived 42 miles from work and it took me 4 hours to get home.\

I got 13 pages done at the crop on Saturday. WooHoo!!!

Y'all are all sweethearts for the kind words. It's nice to know that there is such a great group of friends just a keyboard away.
