I have had a slight delay in getting my tags out. Hoping to get there tomorrow. Here's my sob story....
Today, I went to visit my grandma (79 yrs) who was transferred to an assisted care home after having hip surgery. She had a stroke at the end of May, was recovering while staying with my aunt, and then tried to go outside and possibly had a minor stroke and fell down the 3 steps out the back door. They believe her bone had already been broken before she fell, based on the look of the break at the time of surgery.
My grandma took care of my other aunt, who had COPD from smoking most of her life (53 yrs old and quit 3 years before she lost the battle). I think Grandma has been slowly deteriorating from the burden of caring for and not being able to save her child. She hates being in the facility and hasn't eaten much for 7 days and has little strength.
My grandma and aunt want me to get Power of Attorney and be her designated Health Care Surrogate. Spent the rest of the day taking DD to swim lessons and then discussing and initiating with my lawyer and a notary what was needed to put these papers in place. Will be working on that tomorrow so that I can handle the care for my grandma who is not in the right mind to be making decisions (although she is not incapacitated).
I went back to see her after dinner and took her some Potato soup from Texas Roadhouse hoping she might desire it. Nothing. They have given her appetite stimulants to help with her appetite and milk of magnesia mixed with something else to help with BM's. I am taking her some cold ENSURE in the morning - she likes it and thinks it goes down easy so I'm praying she'll be able to take it.
