Would You consider a RCS Meet Here?

In my dreams!! A week is a long time and thee or four days at the mst would be what I could possibly get away for.

I thought that a possible one close to center of country would be nice too, like in Missouri somewhere. There is a lot of lodges and stuff near Lake of Ozarks in central part of state and even down around Banson area. Maybe someone could do a search for places like that? St Loius area would be nice too and of course near a large airport.

I'll tell you why I suggested Orlando. It is usually warm and sunny. It is one of the easiest airports to fly into and one of the least expensive places for everyone including our Canadians. And they have a whole lot of houses to rent that would allow us to save a heck of a lot in hotel and restaurants while living like queens and getting to know each other very well. Pleae remember that a weekend is a very, very short time and the odds are that if we want to get each other we will need to be in a place where we can congregate and scrap or at least see each others favorite albums. Also I considered the fact that Florida has more RCS members than any other state, increasing the chance to meet lots of our people.

Personally I would prefer Orlando or an airport that is an airline hub like Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas as they are much cheaper for everyone to fly into. Another place would get my vote is Minneapolis, Minnesota end of May or early June. You can get to Minneapolis on a direct flight from Kansas City ($227), Tampa ($278), Little Rock ($284) and even Saskatoon ($495)! Sorry Barb, it is more expensive, but it's direct and the flight is less than 3 hours. It's a Northwest Airlines Hub I guess. I've included Little Rock, Kansas City, and Louisville, NYC and Phoenix, Arizona. Little Rock, Kansas City, and Louisville are all fairly expensive to fly into unless you are flying in from one of the airline hubs. I'll be happy to add any other city that you'd like, but that city must at least have an airport.

April/Cowchipper, isn't Minneapolis/St Paul were the Mall of the Americas is? Are there any good scrapbook stores there? However we will all have to stay in hotels there. I guess depending on the number who would come if it were there, I could try to negotiate a better rate for us as well as some sort of a meeting room. I have put 10 cities up on a poll on my yahoo group and created a portal for you to go to to subscribe.

POLL Given Katrina's post, I thought we really should take a poll, so I've set one up on my yahoo group. I have put 10 cities up for you to vote on that people have mentionned to me plus all those mentionned above that are airport hubs. Here is the link for the portal for the yahoo group:

I would suggest that you consider air/carfare, check

to see what the fares would be from your city to the ones mentionned before voting so that you can make an informed choice. The first poll will be followed by a second one with only the top 3 or 4 vote getters included. Please do not vote if you have no intention of attending the meet no matter where it is!

Hope this helps us to figure out where we should go!

This get together would be a dream and I would love to attend my first RCS meet! Weekends would be better for me, with the kids in school and all. I also have a sister that lives near Orlando and I have not been to see her in years! I'll be keeping an eye on details when, and see if it would be possible for me to go, as far as time off work, AND financially!

I kind of agree with some other members about being more centrally located for everyone, but I am an adventurous person, so whatever you can arrange that is cool with everyone, is fine.

Funny I checked out Orbitz as suggested and it's going to cost about $400 any where I got except for Orlando, which was $300. Weird.

I'd love to meet up, but as with some of us leaving during the school year just wouldn't really be possible for me. My kids aren't at an age where they can get themselves to and from school and hubby would have to take leave from work as I don't live close to any relatives for things like this. Hubby and kids at home while I'm on vacation... alone. That would go over like a lead balloon. Financially I could swing it I just need to work on cutting 3 umbilical cords from me. :)

While I personally probably can not attend, I thought I'd throw out another accomodation idea to look into. Sometimes Universities and colleges rent out their dorm rooms like hotel rooms during the summer when they don't have as many classes. I stayed in dorms at a Bible college in Minneapolis in '92 and have stayed in the dorms at University of Alberta. Now both times were with a group and many years ago but I have heard of others doing this more recently. Hotels will also often give a group rate if your group is large enough (especially if you want a conference room -- for scrapping).

Oh and yes the Mall of America is in Minneapolis/St. Pauls.

If we could find something similar to this one closer to Minneapolis or one of the other cities it would be nice. I am sure there are several more like this surrounding some of the larger cities. My group has been thinking about renting a bed & breakfast for a scrapbook retreat. They have a beautiful one in Brown County, IN we are looking at, but it is so rural and out of the way. Many of the bed & breakfast inns are willing to rent out the entire house for a group. I am sure there are several more like this surrounding some of the larger cities. There is no way I could be gone for a week because I am self-employed and so many families depend on me for their childcare so they can work. But a couple of weekdays tied to a weekend is a feasible option. I won't rule out being able to attend just yet. I already have plans to go to the CK convention in Nashville, TN on April

If i'm going to fly over, that is so costly I would want to be there for three or four days. Otherwise I couldn't justify the expense. It does sound exciting and fun!

I'm sorry but the more I think about it-and I have, alot! I don't think I can swing it either financially or personaly. Two small children that can't just be left with a sitter and a dh who would need to take time off so I can go on a holiday alone-as Lynne said this would go over like a lead balloon! I would love to meet everyone and all who go would have a wonderful time but realistically I think you better count me out:o( Barb

It would be neat to have a meetup in Orlando. I could swing that (I'd MAKE the time/money from somewhere) but I couldn't justify going anywhere that I had to fly to get to... we're so broke that it's not funny :(
