Absolutely buried

I am paralyzed with project-itis.............Have things I must do and deadlines are looming. The deadlines pretty much prioritize things for me but I am having an awful time starting some of this stuff.

20 embroidered bibs within the next 2 weeks......each one takes almost half an hour to embroider, never mind finishing the edges and the ties..........2 sweatshirts to embroider....fast ones, thank the sewing gods.........MUCH Christmas sewing.....and 14 for Thanksgiving dinner at my house........(which is a wreck)

Better just grab SOMETHING and start I suppose.............

All encouragements gratefully accepted!

Deadlines schmedlines. Grab the easiest, quickest project, do it, and *then* prioritize.

You need to prime your pump.

Pat, I feel your pain! I hate it when I know I have things to finish, like yesterday, and can't get the body in gear. The mind is willing the body just sits. Maybe if you get started than I can too. I promise tomorrow will be a day to finish up somethings. Or maybe the day after tomorrow(LOL, Scarlett) You have a deadline,it does put a push on things. Wait a minute, I have one too, next Friday the latest to finish the pillows.Better get myself downstairs and working, now! Juno

Good advice! Seeing something moving along to completion is a great pump primer. Which reminds me, I have a mending job sitting and a shirt ready to cut out. But too many non-sewing things are keeping me busy. Maybe tomorrow...

Encourage, encourage! Don't think of all the things you have to do. Think only of one. Do it, then think of another. The journey of a thousand miles is made one step at a time......or something to that effect. Just call me Confushis. ;-)

Must be something in the air up here in our little corner of the world! I'm FINALLY finished embroidering the cape for the Oberon costume. Yeah, that was just ridiculous and did it to myself....ah well. Now here it is OCTOBER

28!!!!!!!! and I havne't done anything for his highness for a Halloween costume. *sigh* I told him we would dig through stash today and see what we could come up with. This is of course between going to a birthday party this afternoon (friend's son) and the Fall Festival at school this evening. (for which I made and donated a half dozen headache rice bags----just finished those BTW.)

So sometime between now and Tuesday I have to get some kind of Halloween costume done. I may see what he has in the closet and work around it. Then I have to finish the rest of the Oberon costume by the 15th. That should be all right. But I would also like to get the wallpaper borders stripped out of both bathrooms (they are curling up icky!!) And redo the cushion covers on my couch. (I made them too loose when I first reupholstered the couch so they are wearing from sliding around. *sigh*) I'd like to get all that done by the 15th also since my in-laws are coming for Thanksgiving the next week.

Don't know that's very encouraging, but I'm right here in the next trench over digging away too!!! lol

The only real projects I have are matching dresses for DGD and her friend, same size 6X, though they are almost 8 YO; fleece throws for DSIL and a cousin(already cut to size, ready for hemming w/decorative thread on the serger; and placemats w/napkins for DS & family for their first Christmas in their new home. Since it is a small ranch and they have 3 horses, I bought some nice fabric with horses in the snow for the placemats and think I'll make natural or ecru napkins. They aren't Christmassy, but can be used all year.

Then DS, with whom I live, asked me this evening if I could make myself some new slacks. After I dressed to go out to dinner, he wanted to know if I'd noticed how my slacks looked(very big); I told him, I knew I'd lost more weight and he said I should take a good look in the full-length mirror. So that will be #1 project. I had bought some nice gabardine last year for 4 pair, but never got them done. He told me, "This would be the time." Emily

Sharon, you may not have to redo them. Did you wrap the cushions in batting when you recovered them? Wrap them in batting, then a layer of lightweight sew-in interfacing over that and tack all the way through. Maybe that's all they need.

Good luck. We had Fall Festival on Friday and I made the bean bags as well and a scarecrow costume. I feel your pain.

Kirsten, They are too far gone for that. :( I did use upholstery grade batting. I knew the covers were too loose when I finished the couch. But thought, Oh they might be ok. *sigh* Learned the hard way why they need to be Tight. Ah well. This will use up the rest of the roll of fabric I had for the couch. So that's a good thing will get that out of the stash. (and we all know that means it will also make room for new fabric!!! LOL)

Congrats, indeed! And good on your son for the constructive criticism, spoken in a nice way. Get out that gabardine!

Thanks, Jean. He is great to have around, and yes, the gabardine is out & already pre-washed. I'm debating about lining them with a soft 100%cotton. I bought some deep purple to try those first. If they look okay and are comfortable, I'll line the others, as Sandra Betzina suggested in a couple her books. I've never lined gabardine before, and don't want them to be too heavy, that they aren't comfortable to wear on a long trip, such as from Houston to FL or SC. Emily

100%cotton.

Could you line just the upper part (down to perhaps your upper thigh)? This would save some on the heat but give support to the gabardine where they would get the most wear and wrinkling. Don't know if this might work; let us know if you try it.

Do! And show us the results! I can tell you that after you lose some weight, new smaller clothes go a long way to making you look even smaller! :)

All,

I'm not sure but it seems it might be mistaken as me (AK) who has lost the weight and needs to make the new gab slacks. That would not be correct. Emily * I don't know her last name. Is the one who has lost weight enough for her current slacks to be "(very big)".

Emily , you'll have to surface here, from your efforts to make new slacks from that gabardine, to get proper credit.

I don't want to steal your spotlight. AK in PA

Pat, You got me moving. Just knowing other people are buried under makes me feel better. The pillows are finished. They are done in the fabrics from hell. DD asked me do pillows for her new couch with material that she had left over from a stationary window valance she had made professionally. The fabric is a lovely uneven plaid in brown, tan, rust and black, It frays unbelievable. Since she didn't have enough for me to do both sides of the pillows in the same fabric and match the plaid I did the backs of the square ones in a brown moleskin, fray, fray and more fray. The rectangle one I did in a tan moleskin back and the front I did a patchwork design, 3 rows,4 squares each, of the tan and plaid. More fray, fray, fray. Looks nice but I keep saying I'll never sew fraying upholstery fabric again and of course someone wants something made and I give in. On to the next project. Juno

Jean, That's an idea, lining only the upper part of the slacks. When I finish them, I'll tell you about them and/or post photos if I can find a place to do so. In the meantime, next week, sewing will have to be put on hold for a few days. The hardwood flooring will be delivered this Saturday and will be installed next Wednesday & Thursday, which means I have to empty the sewing room, the dining room and DS's home office, which was supposed to be the formal living room. We use the den as the living room, since it's imperative he has an office in the house. He has guitars hanging on one wall with all his music apparatus on that side of the room and his office desk, etc on the other side. My piano is in the dining room. We are anxious to get the hardwood installed. Emily
