Book Sock Directions

Now that school has started, I was wondering if anyone knows where I could get a pattern for book socks. They are made out of stretch material that slips over the book to cover them. I know they come in different sizes to accomadate the varous sized books. Thanks.

You might be able to find one cheap (Office Max/Depot had them for

99cents a couple of weeks ago) and use it for the pattern.

DD and I made her book covers out of paper bags. Her textbooks are really big, and they don't make book socks big enough.

Anyway, as far as I can tell from looking at the socks, they're just a rectangle with cut away corners, sewn along the cut away line. (think fitted sheet.)

If I wanted to make one, I'd probably take a piece of paper and cut & fold it to fit. Using that as a pattern, cut the fabric about 15% smaller. I've not seen a pattern, but I haven't looked, either.

I always used brown paper or sticky back plastic too. Or the ends of old wallpaper for the bigger books, it#s way stronger than material or paper and is good for paperback books that are valuable (SCIENCE BOOKS!).

Personally I wouldn't cover text books in fabric as I'd worry about the edges being damaged when I shoved them in my bag (which is always inevitably to small). But that's just my opinion.
