Complicated Pillowcases

Sometimes, if something can be sewn easy, or complicated, I seem to chose the hard way to do it! Years ago I made some Valances for the two windows in one bedroom and the adjoining bathroom out of a pretty blue print polished cotton. After a couple of years I replaced them, but put the blue away in case I wanted the cloth for something else. I am a tightwad and I decided there was enough cloth for 2 King-size pillowcases for my bedroom. Except that I would need to sew seams down the length of the sides. Then I realized that I would also need to cut the bathroom Valance piece in half to add to the length of the King size pillowcases. But I didn't have time to finish these at one sitting, and it was 2 weeks before I got back to them and I forgot to add the extra length. Then I had to do some un-sewing and add the length. Long story is that they finally got finished up this evening. Yea! I am happy! I now have beautiful blue print pillowcases that match the blue ceramic tile in the adjoining bath! Barbara in SC

Aw fer crying out loud, Barbara. You surely did do that the hard way. When I just must put a project away for a while, I try hard to securely pin a note to it telling me what comes next. Even =) if it's just a reminder that the appliqué stitch must be 'turned over' to be going zig the right way. Part of ageing I reckon, but it sure helps to have a note called "Now. Where was I?" "Polly Esther" ...

Polly I sometimes write myself a note and pin to my project. The pad of paper & pen are supposed to located on the wall in front of me, but sometimes it "walks" off and can't be found! If this is one of my "10 Min. to sew" before supper burns I just don't take a few seconds to search for the paper. Maybe I need to train it better! Barbara

Barbara, that sounds like me! Several years ago, I decided to make 2 DGS each a pair of pillowcases from fabric with the UF design. I got sidetracked before finishing them, moving to Houston from CA, then going to SC for 6-months. By the time, we got settled in this home, I discovered neither of them were going to UF, so I packed the pillowcases away.

Now the elder DGS, their cousin, did graduate from UF 2-years ago. He married last month to his long-time girl friend who graduated this spring from UF. Both are now working for MS State U.

This morning, I came across the pillowcases while looking for a pair of pants I use as a pattern. I looked them over and decided I really should finally finish them for the newly-weds. It will take some time because I'd embroidered the name of one of the other DGS on one pair, which now has to be unpicked.

Oh well, the fabric has had lots of time to properly age over the years. LOL.

Good idea, Polly; if now if I can remember to write the note.

An article in the newspaper recently stated that experts now think that putting the entire person to sleep during surgery, causes dementia eventually.

Now when I forget something, I remind the person to whom I'm talking how many times I was put to sleep during surgeries. Good excuse for forgetfulness.
