Help! Singer Fashion Mate 237

Dec 19, 2003 4 Replies

Hello!

I know that the solution to this problem will slap me in the face, but I've tried and tried to fix it.

I bought a Singer Fashion Mate 237 at a flea market for a little bit of nothing. After cleaning away the dirt and oiling it, she's in almost perfect cosmetic condition. It hardly looks used. The machine sews a perfect straight stitch and zigzags great.

The problem is the reverse stitch! It leaves loops on top of the fabric. I know this is some type of tension problem and hopefully something I can fix myself without hauling it to the shop.

Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks!

Tighten the tiny screw on the bobbin case that holds the little leaf spring on: this spring sets the tension on the bobbin thread.

It worked! Thanks, Kate!

I've already stitched up a pair of pajama pants for my son and the machine did a wonderful job.

You're welcome! I don't have one, but most Singer's have the same adjustment for their bobbin thread. My two have different bobbin cases

- one drop in, and one side loading - but they both have this tiny screw. Just don't unscrew it too far as it's very hard to find on the carpet!
