Hobo Quilt

I have been quilting for 40 years & have offered to help a friend as she is attempting to make the HOBO quilt from the book. I find the book to be the most frustrating in figuring the instructions/dimensions from the diagrams & measurements given. We are constantly refiguring the blocks by measuring each block pictured. The dimensions given do not match the picture. I told her to donate the book once we are finished.

Good grief! I've been quilting since the earth cooled and have no clue what the HOBO is. Please do re-post over at rec crafts textiles quilting - rctq. They are a precious group and maybe some of them will be able to help. Polly

Polly, I quilted with my DGM's quilting group, when I was a youngster, and I remember someone had a HOBO quilt. IIRC, it was similar to a Sunshine Sue, except the boy was dressed like a boy & had a bag on a stick over his shoulder. I quit quilting when DGM passed away, so it has been a long time since then. But I may have a pattern around somewhere, if one is needed.

OP wrote about "the HOBO quilt from the book". I am not a quilter *at all*, but I googled "Hobo Quilt" and found:

This may be what s/he is writing about. However, I may be mistaken.

I'm surprised that you are not a quilter 'at all'. Some of my quilts are treasures, some receive unspeakable treatment from rug rats, some say "love'. OTOH, some could wind up being used to wrap a refrigerator traveling in the back of a pickup truck. No guarantees - but I truly believe with your skills and talents that you would truly enjoy it. I appreciate the skill and effort that goes into making a quilt, really I do. I actually bought a quilt frame, batting and backing fabric in the 70s, intending to finish the quilt top my DH's grandmother pieced (the one my DMIL passed on to me after SHE failed to complete it ;-} ). However, I have way more projects and hobbies now than I can comfortably handle, and adding quilting? Not gonna happen in this lifetime.

I understand. I paint with oils and have often wondered if I would enjoy pastels or watercolor but I stay away. Well. There's ink and charcoal too and I try to not look in their direction. There truly are only so many hours in a day although I'm inclined to stretch that as far as I can. Polly
