I saved a Bernina!!!

(imagine me using the voices of the little Pixie guys from Willow when they shouted "I stole a baby!")

I was just at Erin's Department Store, aka the building where we put the trash and recyclables at my apartment complex. As Ze Queen of Ze Dumpster Diving, I always keep an eye out for anything interesting my neighbors might have pitched. I saw a *very familiar* carrying case and opened it to find a Bernina 730 - the exact same machine as mine! Wow! I didn't even wait until the cover of darkness to lug it back to my apartment. I haven't plugged it in yet to see if it works or not but, even if it doesn't, I can always salvage parts from it.

And to think that I was aggravated when I went out!!! :-)

It's nice to hear there are others out there who like to recycle. Freecycle is good for this too.

Yay!!!!!!! Good job! Always good to take in an orphan off the streets...literally this time. ;)

Hope it works. I'm betting a good clean and oil and who knows! Whooo hoo!!!

---proud of myself for "rescuing" the 6 month old German shepherd pup across the street. He wandered out of the yard after bulldozing the privacy fence gate. *ahem* His daddy was at work and he was very glad to get "found" by the nice lady across the street. Took the pony...uh....puppy home with me till his dad got home from work. ;) Must be the day for rescues. lol

Yup! When I moved here in Feb 1994 Harri's mom was having problems with her c. 1980 Singer and I talked up the older, all-metal machines as being FAR superior. So guess what I received for my birthday in 1995? I gave my old, metal, 1960s Singer to my best friend when I moved to Sweden from NC so I was quite happy!!! She also bought a similar machine for herself but I don't remember the make/model.

My current 730 only had one owner before me and I have the manual with the service record. I was planning on taking out my new find today and giving it a cleaning, oiling and test run. Unfortunately, Mr. Scottie was feeling, ahem, rather unwell today, probably due to worms. As I result, I spent a large portion of my day scrubbing down the livingroom rug. It' s an area rug so I could drag it into the bathroom and cleaning it with a scrubbrush and green soap before hosing it down with the detachable showerhead. The rug is ok after spending the day hung-up outside in the sunshine but I am somewhat traumatized!!! Not to mention that I had to hose-down the bathroom afterwards.

Doggy has had a dose of Axilur de-worming med and I've had a nice soak in the tub and a mug of tea so things are a bit quieter now. And, as Scarlett O'Hara was wont to say, tomorrow is another day. :-)

Oh good grief! Given the circumstances, you might wish to add a touch of brandy to that tea ;)

Thanks!!! I've had a chance to oil and plug-in my new find and it runs perfectly!!! I only needed to change the light bulb. It didn't have all the accessories in the case but I have those with my old Bernina. This machine did have a couple I *didn't* have, though, such as the machine embroidery hoop. Actually, I've switched out my old Bernina to be my back-up and the "new" Bernina is now my main machine.

Woohoo!!!

Be sure to get it serviced. Light knows how long it might have sat without oiling and adjusting.
