Looking for sewing basket

Jan 07, 2004 5 Replies

I do not sew much at all. I have an old sewing basket that well, isn't a basket as much as a plastic box. It's about 13x9x8. It's tray has specific places built in for bobbins, thread spools and even thimbles.

I have looked and looked and can't find anything like it now. I've looked on the internet and in all the fabric stores that I know of. I'm in the Dallas, Texas area.

If the tailored tray that I'm specifically looking for. All that I've seen just have trays with plain compartments to put anything.

Anybody seen one of these?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you can try

Thanks but no, that is more like just a tray with a cover that would go in the basket. It is much too shallow.

The "basket" I'm looking for has a handle so you can carry it around.

Over here in the UK I have one made by Curver (who appear to be a European part of Rubbermaid) and although mine sounds flatter than yours I have found a picture of something similar:

I think this is a better picture of the same item

Walmart in the States sell boxy sewing baskets for around $17-20. They are fabric covered and lined, with a rattan handle. You might have more luck looking for a specific container at the sports stores like Models, EMS, etc. They have tackle boxes with numerous trays, drawers and levels, mostly plastic tho. You might find metal ones at home improvement centers.
