My granddaughter entered four dances in the Highland Games in Portland, OR, USA today:
And, thank the weather gods, it wasn't 100°F for a change, really a comfortable 82°F or so, with a moderate breeze. Whew! A grand time was had by all.

Aaack! Correction: She won one first place and three *second* place awards. Really, I'll just have to have my hearing aide and/or glasses adjusted. ;-}

Wow, Beverly, that's marvelous! Bragging is very much in order. And thank you for including the interesting links.

How wonderful! congrats to your grand daughter for having so much determination, and congrats to you and her family (and her teacher) for obviously encouraging her.
Still want to see pics of the costumes you are going to make!

WOW amazing! Well done DD!
That's wonderful news re the dancing. Hopefully that has given your granddaughter a much needed boost to her confidence.
If you had to listen to bagpipes all day then you have my commiserations! How did such an instrument get invented?? Our war veterans parade this year was just outside our apartment and every other song played by the pipe bands was Scotland the Brave - I was starting to go mad after more than 4 hours of parade!
Viviane,
I think it's something that is in the blood. Either you have it or you don't. I'm Scottish and Irish, and I have a cd of songs played on the bagpipe that I actually use to relax with while working on quilts or other sewing projects. DH, who is Scottish and Cherokee prefers Native American drumming to bagpipes. DS and DD are a mix......DS mostly prefers drumming, but likes Celtic (Irish) music and DD prefers bagpipes over drumming.

Oh, good for her! Pass on my congratulations, please.
And yes, we'll let you brag - just this once! ;)
Oh, indeed! I am now researching kilts, because as/if she progresses, she'll be needing an authentic tartan kilt for competitions. I ma really looking forward to that!
Thanks,
Beverly

Thanks much! ;-)

The terrific part is that she does her practicing *every day* without any push form her parents. She really likes doing it.
Well, I sent off the first two costumes to the teacher without taking pics. When I get into making a genuine kilt, I'll be documenting the process. I doubt I'll go the "hand sewn" way of the Scottish kiltmakers, but we'll see. And making those velvet vests and jackets should be a ton of fun.

Thanks!

Ah, I can hear it all the way over......here, thanks!

Thanks, Cea.

I will! She knows all about "the sewing Kate in England", she'll be thrilled.
Yes, ma'am, I'll behave now. ;-)
