My H 2000 is here!

My Husqvarna 2000 has arrived yesterday, in good condition thanks to the fact that it had a tape with 'Handle with care - Glass' wrapped all around it, I suspect. After unpacking it today I can at least confirm that it has all the parts advertised. Really, it's like opening a time capsule from the early 1960s, including newspaper cuttings with useful tips for sewing and stuff. The manual is somewhat battered but not beyond repair, the 'Beachwear with Husqvarna' brochure is there twice and contains some dot&cross paper (or something similar).

The box for feet and parts is undamaged and holds all the feet one might wish for. There are even 7 spools with it (I removed the prehistoric thread from it, many colours on each spool), but I think I might look around for more. Too bad, I had bought a heap of spools for the Singer and they won't fit. Don't know where to get metal ones for the H. but for now the seven or eight will sure do. One of the gadget wheels that make the fancy stitches has lost its metal cover. Easily mended and glued, once I know which way it goes back in.

The machine itself shows some sratches on the outside but seems so far in good order. I haven't plugged it in so far, out of fear that I might break something if I haven't studied the manual carefully beforehand. A somewhat different system from what I know, but not bad at all, obviously somebody has spent some time thinking on the design and all that, safety and stuff. Gotta read and try on Sunday.

Anyway, I just had to share, I felt so good this afternoon when I unpacked all these riches, and not at all like a looser mom that doesn't get anything done. Well, hope is the last to die... ;-)

CONGRATUALTIONS on your new "toy", Ursula! I am certain you will enjoy it immensely. Do you mean bobbins, when you say 'spools'? If so, they can be bought at most mail-order sewing stores, I imagine, if there is a not a H dealer nearby. I am certain Kate can assist you in that; I've never owned that brand of machine. Enjoy the new machine; and give your DD a big hug. I do love children. Emily

Congratulations! It sounds like you got a good deal, and will get a lot of enjoyment from the machine.

Way hay!

I'll send you some that might do, if it takes metal bobbins. If they don't fit, no loss, as they don't fit anything here. Odd ones I bought for a school machine once when teaching.

read the bit about cleaning and oiling particularly carefully!

Yoy are far from that. Wish you could bring the old Singer and the HV over when you next come.

PS Still working on some logistics about the frock...

Well, if you want to get rid of them, no problem, send them my way. ;-) I'd really like metal bobbins, don't know, just makes the whole thing feel more solid and durable. Plastic breaks and you can't mend it. But then, why mend something that can be bought for a couple of cents? That's my grannie's thrifty influence - two wars and the bad times afterwards, they taught their kids and grandkids not to waste stuff. ;-)

Oh yes, I will!

Well, if or when I come next, I'll take a decent flight and I'm certainly not going from Weeze again. I think we spent an entire tank filling on getting me there and back. And for you it wasn't fun either. But if, then I might take one of those Berninas with me, that is, if you still want to get rid of them. I will need a nice simple machine to teach DD when she reaches the right age. She's beginning to mimick everything I do, so she'll sure want to have a go at sewing sooner or later and I won't let her near the HV, not in the beginning. ;-)

Yes, that is some problem; I hate to think about it at the moment, but we'll sure find some solution. OK; nuff now, gotta go and have breakfast (still without DD). ;-)
