It's not really a reading comprehension thing, google's archive fails to show the dates of a thread prominently (it appears way off to the right side separated from the text), so folks get a hit on a search and respond, not realizing the thing is ancient.

When I click on the thread, but it is through Google Groups, the date is prominently displayed. But they must be accessing the thread another way and, like you said, the date must be displayed somewhere else.
