Going to San Francisco for brother's wedding in early October. Will be playing tourist via Public transit for 2-3 days afterwards.

Is there a "fabric district", and/or places I need to pencil in?

I'm a historical costumer with a specialty in Elizabethan, and a sideline in just about anythiing else. I always had fun wandering the fabric disctict in NYC and was mainly wondering if SF had such an area, full of odd little shops no one knows about.

I loved Britex (one floor just notions and buttons, one floor just remnants, one floor gorgeous designer fabrics). And China Town was nearby, which I got to visit that day.

I think there is a shop called Laci's somewhere that has fantastic things, my cousin-in-law who sews costumes for medeival fairs shops there, but I'm not from the area, so don't know where it is (didn't have time to go there on my visit). Can someone else help? SueB

Laci's is located in Berkeley. You could combine that with a visit to Stonemountain and daughter.

Ah, Penny, we've got just as good here in the PNW (well, ok, except for lacis).... and we've got the Puyallup sewing expo, too!

Kay (who thinks the only reason to go to Berkeley is the botanical garden)
