Searching for a heavy knit/woven with Sheen to it!

Hi, I'm looking for some good fabric with which to have this dress made:

PS: I'm still lookingfor that special seamstress!I could just use regular satin or silk, but the problem with that stuffis: One hangnail, and forget it. it's totally ruined. I'm spending toomuch on this dress to risk that, especially since I, the hangnail QUEEN,will be wearing it. =D So what I'm thinking is perhaps a heavy, woven or knit fabric that has some nice sheen to it, reminiscent of satin, but able to withstand minor snags like hangnails and either not snag, or when snagged, you can cut off the snagged bits and the fabric still looks nice.

It would need to be solid powder blue, or similar, and not have an embossed design, or too much texture to it.

I have no idea where to start! Any ideas for me? IF YOU REPLY, please reply to this email address, or I probably won't see it =/

Thank you SO much!

What begins in the ng, stays in the ng. It's rude to request a private answer to a publicly posted question.

And you had to post your message twice, because....?????

I am posting this only to the NG since it is rather rude to ask for an email reply when you post to a newsgroup.

You need to find someone to do the work for you THEN worry about the fabric. I DON'T EVER work with fabric that a client brings to me without consulting me first.

Try looking here:

"Sykora"

And do all that with no information about where it lives,

I don't think it's asking for a response *to* craigslist, that(craigslistrec) is just it's chosen nym. It's to a gmail address.

Yeah, two identical posts sent within 24 seconds of each other and it breaks netiquette by asking "...IF YOU REPLY, please reply to this email address, or I probably won't see it =/"

"Probably won't..." Well, I guess we can "probably" ignore it.

I really need to find a newsreader with the ability to filter on *content*, so I can just bit-bucket all messages with "sewgirls.com" in the body.

Beverly, chuckling over the fact that this thread is going to show up on that site....

We don't seem to understand that this person is Important and Busy and that we are being given the opportunity to brighten up our otherwise dull existence by being helpful. She (he?) does not have the time to read and post in a newsgroup, so it is incumbent upon us to provide the solutions to the problem(s) in email. It would be acceptable to leave the appropriate fabric in a suitable container on the front porch, and perhaps even better to provide the garment made of the fabric, completed.

I'm so glad you explained it, I was totally confused. Now that I understand OP's Very Important Person status, I shall immediately set about researching the perfect solid-with-a-nice-sheen (similar to satin), woven-or-knit, powder-blue-or-similar, shiny-but-not-snaggy, unembossed and without-too-much-texture fabric. And of course I'll also put in a great deal of time and effort into locating the perfect professional sewist in the OP's county/village/city/state/province/country/continent/planet/galaxy/universe

;-D

Me too, thanks for all your help! I haven't located the perfect fabric or sewing pro just yet, but I won't rest until I do. ;-þ

I'm so glad I hadn't poured my coffee yet. It would be all over the monitor!!! LOL Can someone come explain to the dog that Mommy hasn't lost her mind, and that it's OK for Mommy to cackle like a fiend sometimes?? :)

My dog has learned to stay off my lap when I'm first reading newsgroups in the morning. He stands across the room and observes until it appears to be safe.

Girls on this thread: When you finally do find that fabric, be careful not to snag it with your claws. JPBill

Sadly, I have run across some people who don't get it that the internet is a DIY experience full of people volunteering their time.

I even had one person complain to me a number of years back when I was on AOL that AOL did not provide you with your own personal AOL staff person to be a big brother and teach you the ropes of how to use AOL, and that it was *BEEEP* that they expected you to search help files to get the information you needed. *rolling eyes*

The only fitting commentary I have to this situation is:

"We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true." -- Prof. Robert Wilensky, UC Berkeley
