Sight in TSWLTH

I had to stop at TSWLTH, and while I was waiting (interminably) for my turn to get my fabric measured, I noticed a young woman in a beige knit 2 pc suit with a knee length pleated skirt. Then I noticed that the hem of the skirt had been flat locked, and not turned at all, so you sould see the serged edge at the bottom 1/4 inch of the skirt. As this was clearly supposed to be a somewhat dressy look (the wearer also had on a white lace blouse and pearls), I was surprised at this lack of finish.

Is this supposed to be some sort of new look? Sorry, but I don't like it at all.

Do you think she had let the hem out and the finished it this way?? Perhaps she's just beginning to sew and is totally clueless. At least I hope that's her excuse.

I wouldn't put such a finish past RTW manufacturers. They seem inclined to use fast, easy techniques and claim they're "design features."

I don't think so.. There was not any telltale mark, no matter how small that I could discern.

It was too bad, as it ruined the look of her outfit, which was quite nice otherwise, and had the look of a fine wool knit.

If this had been "sportswear", I would have thought that it might be indeed intentional and RTW, considering the abominal finishes we are now seeing in shops. But this was a dressy suit, and *shakes head*..

I've recently made two Vogue pattern skirts. They have laooed seams with raw edges and a raw edge hem.

Fun! And they look great, too.

It's really big in Sweden now. I admit I don't care for some of the "distressed look" finishes myself, but some of them look really cool.
